Book Description

September 2007
While working with athletes, Mike McInnes discovered that eating fructose-rich foods such as honey helped to burn fat and increase stamina. He also found that the best time to burn fat is while sleeping. Eating honey before bed activates the body’s natural recovery biology, which is fuelled by burning fat. These effects can be maximized by the accompanying 15 minute exercise program that is effective with only three sessions per week. Tested by professional athletes, this dream diet aims at creating a healthier lifestyle and increasing athletic ability rather than just losing weight.

5.0 out of 5 stars An Important Book To Read Even If You Don't "Diet", March 29, 2011
By
This review is from: The Hibernation Diet (Paperback)
I just finished reading this book which I borrowed from the library. I really expected to be disappointed by the material which is why I didn't want to purchase the book. Now I want my own copy. I'm not a professional but I do have some basic knowledge of nutrition and how the body works. The information in this book just makes so much sense to me. First off, it discribes many symptoms I've been having for some time now to a tea. It's almost like someone was able to put how I feel exactly into words. I'm just starting to make changes to my eating lifestyle. I'm not going to call this a diet because, to me, it sounds like it might turn out to be a very enjoyable eating experience. There's room for so many mouthwatering combinations in this plan. I love seafood, chicken, eggs, fresh veggies, lushious sweet fresh fruit...yum..a papaya with all it's sweet juice and lushious flesh. Oatmeal made with fruit juice, honey, dried raisins and dried cherries. Ingredients like Coconut Oil and honey make for some tasty and healthy new recipes to come up with and try. My first experiment was cooking baby raw carrots in any fruit juice of your choice that doesn't list any added sugars to the ingredients...just juices. When the carrots are still firm to bite into but partially cooked add honey, coconut oil, dried raisins, dried red cherries, 1/2 Tsp of ground ginger, 1 Tsp ground cinnimon, and a cut up raw apple, stir together until honey and oil is disolved and throughly mixed together. Coat the carrots well, put the lid on the pan and let cook for 5 minutes on medium heat. Fruit juices will reduce and create a nice sweet glaze that's heavenly. I couldn't get enough..lol. I really expect to feel changes from this nutritional adventure. I think I'll even regain some interest in creative cooking for two again.

4.0 out of 5 stars Why so expensive?, November 27, 2011
This review is from: The Hibernation Diet (Paperback)
Hmmm. If you look at the cost on the book, it is less than US$15 (on the back cover). But the sellers through Amazon want USD 25+? Be realistic guys, purchase from the publisher, they will only charge USD $15 plus another couple dollars for shipping.

The diet does make sense, from a non-dieters perspective. There are scientific reasons why this works. BTW if you are interested the author has a second book The Honey Revolution: Restoring the Health of Future Generations that describes the science more in depth.

I am not a dieter, though I do watch what I eat (no fast food (McDonald's, Kentucky Fried Chicken, etc...) no fried food (well very little). I never thought of consciously dieting. I was told about this by a beekeeper friend, and all it costs for this diet is basically a spoonful of honey at night. I sometimes mix it with water. It does not require you to use local honey, though I've been told local honey has it's benefits. You can use store bought honey. Honey has a range of sweetness, so if you find one honey too sweet find another brand. But I do sleep better, I do not know if I'm healthier, only time will tell.

3.0 out of 5 stars No value for money and book damaged, January 24, 2012
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: The Hibernation Diet (Paperback)
The book I received was outpriced by far and I feel that as a South African I was taken advantage of when it came to the pricing of this book.
Secondly the book was crumbled and looked second hand. If I had bought this for a gift I would have been ashamed.
