Product Description

Lavender Hidcote Blue. A Wonderfully fragrant low growing shrub ideal for edges and borders. Hidcote Blue Lavender is the lavender used for the most exspensive lavender perfumes and oils. This variety is also preffered for culinary use as it is lighter in aroma. Hidcote Blue Lavender is a long lived hardy perennial that will bloom again year after year in zones 4-8. Will grow best in well draining gravel soil, and in dry places with abundant sunshine. Lavender can be propagated by seed or cuttings. The scent is stronger in dry, sunny locations.

And they even jipped me on a pack of seeds.
Terry Ernst
I'm finding that lavender is either really difficult to grow from seed or there is a problem with the product.
Amy N. Byers
This plant will live long, it is hardy and can live through drought.

After I received the seed pack, I did a little research on how to best plant them. All information said it takes at least 21 days for germination. I used a Burpee's seed starting kit and planted 2 in each of the 6 pods. I followed the kit instructions. After about 4-5 days I placed the whole kit tray inside a small plastic grocery bag and tied it, and I placed it on the on the windowsill (indirect light). That forces faster germination, which occurred in 2 weeks. Only 2 little plants germinated that way. I decided to discard with the bag and left the (still covered) tray on my windowsill (indirect light). A little seedling sprouts up about every week 1/2. When they sprout I take them outside and plant them. So far they are doing well.

These are slooooooow seeds, but they seem to germinate if you forget about them. I just planted the rest in another bigger seed kit, and left in my cubicle to germinate, let's see how that works.

Happy planting!

I received the seeds, they appear to be good, and I got them quickly. I do wish the (pretty complex) germination procedure was listed on the description; I probably would have shied away. You are supposed to plant the seeds, keep them moist at 70°F for a week, then in the fridge (39°F) for a week, then at 50°F for a week. I have no way to keep them at 50, so I will work on it at some other point. I don't know about the viability of the seeds, but I'll assume they're good, from the other seeds I got.

Just planted these Saturday 27 2013. Not sure how well they will grow, but there were deffinately not 100 seeds in this package. 30 is still a lot, but I was expecting 100 so...

I germinated these inside with a greenhouse and plant light. After spring planting they transplanted well into new soil and spread quickly with little tending.

I planted them in a terracotta pot and they are starting to grow but they do take a long time.

I grew this plant for the first time last summer. I grew 2 seeds in a large pot. They grew nice and hardy and smell great. I made oil from the plants, my wife and I gave the oil to friends and family. The potted plants look like they are going to survive the winter.

Blue lavender herb has a beautiful scent. I recommend using seeds whenever possible because going to the feed & seed store or hardware or drug store is a long walk or bus ride, whereas seeds can easily be delivered. This plant will live long, it is hardy and can live through drought.
