Progressive Folk at its best, March 7, 2008
This review is from: Hidden Agenda (Audio CD)
Firstly, I cannot understand why someone is trying to sell this album for over $67.00. I sold my hard copy on EBAY for less than a tenner, but I could easily enough get another copy for the same amount, no problem. You have been warned. 'Hidden Agenda' is not my favourite Morrigan album, but 'Masque' isn't advertised on Amazon, so I will give my thoughts on this one. It is quite easy to compare Morrigan to that of other bands (Mike Oldfield/Steelye Span/Jethro Tull/Mostly Autumn) but on 'Masque' even Pink Floyd were hinted at. On the 2nd track 'In the end', the vocals reminded me of Andy Tillison of The Tangent. The music and lyrics from The Morrigan will always be a delight whether it be of their numerous Celtic ditties to their Progressive Rock Classics or even their medieval folk renditions. Hidden Agenda offers this great variety. Lots of tasty flute, and Cathy Alexander's beautiful voice will leave you mesmerised. As I mentioned earlier though, if you are wanting to explore the rockier side of the Morrigan with some very Gimouresque guitar, look for 'Masque'.
