About the Author

Lerlene Nevaril began her love affair with the sewing machine at age five, when her grandmother taught her to make doll clothes on a treadle machine. She discovered quilting in 1979 and now owns a quilt shop, Heart and Hand Dry Goods that has been featured as one of America's top 10 quilt shops in American Patchwork & Quilting's annual Quilt Sampler magazine. Lerlene lives in Sioux City, Iowa.

This is a five-star quilting book.
In this book, many traditional blocks are broken down into their components and "new" blocks evolve from these components. When the new block(s) are combined with the traditional block, magic happens.
The best quilt books provide inspiration to the reader to move beyond just replicating a pattern to create her/his own works, and Lerlene Nevaril achieves this in Hidden Block Quilts.
I don't think I will ever run out of unique design ideas with this book in my quilting library!

I get just about every quilting book from the library first to see if I like it before I purchase it. This book was a pleasant surprise and I'll be definitley be buying this one. Instead of repeating the same block throughout the quilt, this book shows how to (sometimes) take out some elements of the block and add other elements for an unique and beautiful effect. Very colorful book too with lots of patterns.
