4.0 out of 5 stars Dramatic series conclusion
Christine Feehan's "Hidden Currents" is the 7th and final installment of the Drake Sisters series. As with each book in the series, this one focuses on one of the sisters and their quest to find a HEA. This story focuses on Elle, the youngest sister, who carries all the powers of the Drake line. We've seen hints in all the previous books that she was destined for a future...

1.0 out of 5 stars Not what I expected
I just read this book and I didn't enjoy it at all, it was not what I expected. The only good thing was the interaction between the sisters. I was really disappointed with the ending of the series and wish I had never read it.

2.0 out of 5 stars A disturbing end to the series, September 22, 2009
This is the seventh and presumably the final Drake sister romance of the series...and much the way Christine Feehan introduced the series with mystical and spellbinding characters (anyone remember: Magic in the Wind) Magic in the Wind (Drake Sisters, Book 1) rather short, but still enjoyable...the series ends with a disturbing prose.

Stavros Gratsos, is a well-to-do Greek businessman involved in trafficking humans, Elle Drake must try her best to blend in with the social scene as she goes undercover to investigate. Yet, there is something strange about this man. Elle, now working under the guise of Sheena MacKenzie, is unable to use her psychic abilities on him - and thus unable to read his being. The book falls apart when the youngest Drake sister is forced to Stavros' private island.

Distraught and confused, Deputy Sheriff Jackson Deveau - the man that loves Elle, does all he can to find and return Elle to Sea Haven. Concerns are further raised when he learns that her six older sisters are unable to telepathically link to Elle. Will they be able to locate her? And if so, what has happened to her? Who is Stavros Gratsos? And how is he able to block their psychic abilities? I will stop there, but there are some very graphic and disturbing scenes coming up.

With all Christine Feehan books...the characters are drawn like an artist painting a masterpiece - and for this book that is a problem - the book also can overwhelm the reader with the number of characters in it - there are a lot! But the villain...Oh, the villain. The villain is one that is so depraved that all seven sisters (and more) are needed to bring his reign of sadistic terror to an end.

If you are new to the series, Hidden Currents (Drake Sisters, Book 7) is not the book you want. The characters and plot are so disturbing that you'll find yourself lost without having read the earlier books. If you are caught up with the series, then book 7 was a bad way to end a great series..............Skip it, and read the book I would highly recommend that blends mysticism and romance together flawlessly is JoAnna Wylde's novel Price of Pleasure-- Price of Pleasure -- that is, if you are one of the few that haven't read it yet.

1.0 out of 5 stars Hidden Currents, July 4, 2009

I hesitated buying this book because I was suspicious of what was to come having watched the trailer and read the advanced synopsis.I ended up buying it because I felt compelled to complete the Drake Sisters series. Christine Feehan has been adding brutalization and rape to her female characters with increased frequency and I was afraid that was going to happen to Elle as well. Well it did and I'm sorry I spent the money to witness yet another degradation of a female. I realize this happens in life and it sickens me, but if I choose to be involved with the issue, it is not going to be when I sit down to "escape" in a romance novel.I have enjoyed past Christine Feehan books so much, but I know that if I want to continue reading her, I will have to witness this brutalization at least 2 more times to beloved characters. It's already been established that Ivory Malinov in the upcoming Dark Slayer September release was raped, and we have already witnessed some of Skylar's abuse. We obviously read these books because we want to experience the excitement and adventure of the characters' lives. Well, I no longer wish to experience brutalization and depravity at the hands of a sadist, even if there is a happy ending.I'm done with this author.

1.0 out of 5 stars I wanted to vomit, August 21, 2009

Holy Cow! Never in all the years of being an avid reader have I ever felt this way about a book! I feel violated and scarred. I had such high expectations for this book that it would have gotten a 4 star just because I trust the author to write a fantastic story.

Elle's story was shocking. In the previous 6 books she is built up to be a real heroine, strong, smart, powerful. In this book she was made to be a weakling in my opinion. But the thing that was the worst was the total destruction of such a great character. I feel like I'm morning this character. And I feel like I was cheated out of the right story for her.

OMG, the sexual abuse was unbearable to read. I felt absolute rage at the character Stavros and couldn't wait to see him get his. I wanted to weep over the evil of it all.

Even more awful the fact that she made Elle willing to jump into bed with Jackson was revolting and unrealistic even though we all know he was her intended for several of the books. I can't imagine a women who lost her virginity though brutal rape and then survived a month of more rape and sexual torture, would want to sleep with someone else so quickly even to erase a bad memory is just beyond my grasp. And I don't give a damn about magical healing. What the HELL was Christine Feehan thinking?

I know I jump around a lot in this review and hope it makes sense but this book caused a lot of rage and sorrow in me.

I just feel so cheated out of their story. It shouldn't have been like this.

Reader beware this one will break your heart.

1.0 out of 5 stars Huge disappointment, July 4, 2009

I agree with the other reviewers in respects to the abuse that happens to the main character at the beginning of the book and the totally unrealistic things that follow. I can't imagine in a billion years a woman going from abuse so horrible she's trying to commit suicide to jumping into a sexual relationship within days. I did manage to finish the book, but beyond that major issue there were a number of others. I found the whole rescue unrealistic as well, and the same can be said for the bad guy's demise.

As others have pointed out there are huge unanswered questions and plot holes left to fill. I'm sure she'll be continuing the series with Ilya's brothers with the biker gang from Jackson's past the new recurring bad guy now that she's killed of the Reverend.

If you must finish the series, get it from the library.

1.0 out of 5 stars Terrible ending for an otherwise great series!!!, July 7, 2009
Wow is all I can say about this book. What on earth made Feehan go in this direction?? I was disturbed deeply by the rape and tourture of a beloved character but I was horrified how unrealistic the book became after the events occured. No woman in her right mind would flirt and feel sexual days after coming home from a month of being so abused. Its such a pity as the other books in this series were so magical. Next year the next ghostwalker book comes out. Im BEGGING Mrs. Feehan not to even consider such a dark path to a romance book.

1.0 out of 5 stars Disgusting, August 23, 2009
Normally, I love Christine Feehan's books, and have them on my "keepers" list. But this book....Oh my God. There are no words to describe how awful it was. I felt violated, raped, unclean after reading it. I had such high hopes for the series ending. I can't figure why she would do that to the heroine, and the hero came off looking like a patsy. Making matters worse, I read this book almost immediately after reading Sherrilyn Kenyon's "Acheron".

1.0 out of 5 stars Hideous Currents..., December 30, 2009
By
I stopped reading bodice-ripper romance novels years ago because the of them of rape and seduction, romance should leave the reall sated and happy. These many years later I cautiously waded back into the romance water because the genre seemed to have evolved within the paranormal universe.

Ms. Feehan left me numb with shock by wrapping up the Drake sisters series by subjecting the youngest and most powerful sister to a month-long horror fest of sexual torture. Why is it that the more powerful a female is, the author decides to take the heorine down a peg through violent brutalization?

The forced HEA rang hollow and was an insult to the reader's intellegence. This is supposed to be a series centered around close family ties, having rape victim Elle distance herself from her beloved sisters then to turn sexual healing with Jackson, the very man she ran from because she felt he did not understand her, diminished the sisterly dynamic that drove this series.

I cannot imagine a woman losing her virginity to violent rape opting for sexual healing mere days after being rescued from a sexual sadist. Physical and emotional damage from such an ordeal cannot be glossed over with nuptials on the beach and a pretty wedding dress, even if the pretty dress is covering the bride's welts and bruises.

Elle was supposed to be so powerful but she was rendered helpless for weeks until Jackson could find and save her. Elle showed very poor judgment going undercover on a dangerous mission which she was totally unprepared to handle and ultimately, she failed her mission and helped no one. Also, I have to wonder if Jackson was so intimidated by Elle's powers that he couldn't relate to her until she as brought down to his level of pain and humiliation.

I'm really having a hard time wrapping my mind around the five star reviews...could anyone enjoy reading about the lead character being repeatedly raped, beaten, and sodimized, this is not my definition romance or fantasy.

This book has tainted my automatic trust I held for Ms. Feehan books and she should seriously considers the negative feedback from Hidden Currents and dial back graphic child rape/abuse flashbacks in Skylar and Dimitri's future book.

1.0 out of 5 stars Oh no she didn't!, July 5, 2009
By

Why are authors of alpha male romance now trying to get into the Sub/Dom genre? That is a subject that is not for the faint of heart. It's also a subject leaning more toward soft porn. This book is so close to that edge. The thing that made me the most disappointed was that Feehan put blatant rape in her book. What Stavros did to Elle was just that, RAPE. The fact that Elle was having sex with Jackson before the welts even healed was revolting. I will be the first to admit that authors need to come up with something new to keep the spice up, but this subject matter, you can not sugar coat it. If you have read the book, re-read the first few chapters and ask yourself, will you want sex after you've been beaten with a cane, whipped until you are bleeding, bitten, and forced to have sex while tied to a post. Even after her sisters healed her, she should have been more traumatized. This subject matter was handled too lightly. This was the worst Drake book. What a sucky ending. If you haven't read it, don't buy it, borrow it.

1.0 out of 5 stars Love the Author, but this Book ruined the Series for me, December 15, 2009
I'm a huge fan. I have many of her books, and was very involved in the Drake Sisters, but with all of the buildup, this book fell very, very short. It has tainted my reading of the whole series. I read the whole book, but it took me a looooooooooooooong time, and left me with a very unhappy feeling at the end. Again, this won't stop my reading Ms. Feehan's writings, she is very talented. However, I felt as the wrap-up of the series, the darkness overtook the feelings of sisterhood created and running through the previous novels. In general, it made me wish I could turn back time and not get involved with the series.
