This review is from: Hidden Depths: Amazing Underwater Discoveries (Hidden! Series) (Paperback)
Published in 2004 by Annick Press, HIDDEN DEPTHS offers younger readers a cartoon guide to AMAZING UNDERWATER DISCOVERIES, or so its subtitle claims. Author/illustrator Tina Holdcroft's appealing book is geared to readers 9-12.Within the book's 32 pages, Holdcroft introduces children to famous shipwrecks, oddball sea creatures, sunken cities, lost treasures and other watery delights. Her colorful, whimsical illustrations and informative if jam-packed captions illustrate the Pharos lighthouse, CSS Hunley, top-heavy warship Vasa, centuries-defying coelacanth, sunken city of Port Royal, 'black smokers,' Liberty Bell 7 and other nautical topics. Readers 9-12 should be delighted with HIDDEN DEPTHS. It's an entertaining, informative and amusing guide to surprises under the sea. Recommended. |
