I was born in Dublin, Ireland, on the 27-03-1966, which makes me both old and an Aries; I do not believe in either but I seem to be stuck with the former at least.

I have travelled extensively and as well as living in various parts of Ireland I lived for years in London, Holland, Germany, Poland and the USA.

I returned to Dublin and married Eimear (a top litigation lawyer but a good person nonetheless, I swear) in 2001, which effectively ended the travelling, though we still like to roam the world on holidays.

We have three magnificent (if mental) boys whom I wouldn't swap for eternal life and shares in Apple.

I don't remember deciding to be a writer; ever since I can remember I have considered myself one, and after writing various poems and short stories I completed my first full-length novel at the ripe old age of 10. Alas, I no longer have that story, which I would dearly love to read again, if only for a good laugh.

HIDDEN is the first novel I have written for the public, with all my previous writing being intensely personal and for me alone. A second, REDEMPTION SONG, is now also for sale on Kindle.

I majored in Psychology and have an interest in both mental illness and police investigation so this book was right up my alley! Parsons interpretation of mental illness, trauma and therapeutic strategies were very realistic and I found his writing both engaging and entertaining. The characters are developed quite well and the storyline moves along at a pace that is quick enough not to bore but slow enough to not confuse. I finished this book in 3 days and found myself walking around the house with it glued to my hand because I couldn't put it down. The mystery of it keeps you guessing until the very end and the climax is very well executed. If I had to complain I would say that the grammatical and spelling errors found throughout the book could've easily been fixed before print (and I don't mean the British spelling or words) and that I wish we had gotten more time with Grainne and Kate together because I found those scenes extremely compelling. As you can see, neither deterred me from giving the book 5 stars. As a bonus, it was available for free over Kindle when I picked it up but I would definitely say it's worth a purchase or a loan from your library!

I found this book by accident while looking for a different one with a similar title, I liked the sound of it and thought I would give it a go though I had never heard of it before, glad I did because its a really great read. I thought the plot was really well crafted and I loved the characters, especially the main one, Kate Bennet. Sometimes it takes me a while to get into a story especially when its by a writer that I am not familiar with, but this one drew me in almost from the first page. Once I started it I couldn't put it down, the plot kept me guessing right until the end. Can't recommend it highly enough, it's a great read.

This book was really, really good. You find yourself enthralled and wanting what's best for the main characters and envy their strength. I do want to caution that it can be graphic but it's very perspective is educational and makes you wonder if you've ever known somebody that you could've reached out to. I highly recommend this book whether you've lived with abuse or know someone who has.

Enjoyed the book, particularly as it's written by a new author. Good plot, good characters, good location. Looking forward to the next one.

I purchased this book on the recommendation of a friend and am I glad that I did (although am a bit miffed at paying a higher price that it is now advertised at) :-)

Having spent many years working in Dublin, I find I was able to relate to the story very well, as I am familiar with a lot of the places mentioned in the book (e.g. Trinity College) and was easily able to visualise the scenes described in the book.

It's a very well written and well plotted story with engaging characters, (especially when compared to other e-books I have downloaded - bad grammar, spelling, etc). I read it in record time (about 2 weeks - which is REALLY good, for me) :-)

I would have no hesitation in recommending this book to anyone and am looking forward to reading the Derrick's next publication, when it is released.

Not a 4 or 5* book, but not the worst I have read. There were typos and editing errors that were a bit annoying. The main character was more annoying than those errors.

I wanted to like Kate Bennett. I never quite understood how she came to be so successful in her chosen career (and at such a young age!) as she came across as pretty immature and weak. She went on 2 visits to her new patient and declared her the number one priority in her life and totally devoted to helping her. She then never went near her for the next few days. And her total jumps in diagnosis after one meeting with the mostly catatonic Grainne made me roll my eyes so far they hurt. I came to suspect that Trevor hired Kate to simply ensure that Grainne never got better.

There were too many red herrings and too many people ready to jump to conclusions. Michael was offensive in so many ways and Trevor was a bit of a slime. Peter deserved better and the "coppers" were obtuse. Things seemed to move so slow at times and yet this whole story was spread out over the course of just a week.

This was a great plot idea, much of the writing was well done. But with a main character I just could not like it became a book to be endured just to find out how it would end.

This book was free for Kindle when I got it, but anyone looking to pay for it should look closely at all of the 4 and 5* star reviews as all but a few are from reviewers who have only reviewed this one book.
