Book Description

September 1, 1997
Hidden Files is a collection of true stories of unexplained events from law enforcement officers across the United States and Canada. Most of the incidents involve actual police cases or occurred while the officer was on duty, a few entail personal, off-duty experience -- but all are thought-provoking.
-- Provides a look at unexplained phenomena from a decidedly different perspective
-- U.S. government considers police officers to be some of the most credible witnesses of unexplained and paranormal events because they are trained to accurately observe, think analytically, and solve "mysteries"
-- A fascinating topic grounded in true and amazing stories

Ghosts, UFOs, and other reports of paranormal phenomena often test the bounds of credibility, but can such reports be easily dismissed when the witness is an officer of the law trained to make calm, detailed observations under the most stressful situations? In Hidden Files Sue Kovach presents some of law enforcement's most intriguing (and often repressed) files from around the United States. For example, while looking for a woman and her son, Deputy Rich Strasser believes he was guided by the spirit of the deceased mother to find the wreckage of her car and her young son still alive inside it. Officer Ron Chancey recounts being chased by a boomerang-shaped flying object in Florida. And Brian Gosselin shares his encounter with a Sasquatch-type creature in Washington county, New York. These strange reports by respected police officers rival anything on television's X-Files, because they're not works of fiction, but events that actually occurred on the streets of America.

5.0 out of 5 stars A must-read for any paranormal devotee!, March 15, 1999
This review is from: Hidden Files: Law Enforcement's True Case Stories of the Unexplained and Paranormal (Paperback)
Along with Jerome Clark's Unexplained this is simply one of the two best books on the paranormal there is. While Clark's book is a must-read for the sheer bulk of it (documenting 347 cases of the unexplained) this book must be read for the reliability. It's easy for skeptics to dismiss eye-witnesses to paranormal events when they are someone whose reliability cannot be established but can they do the same when the witness is a police officer, someone who's trained to make these kinds of observations? In this book Sue Kovach, an investigative reporter documents such bizarre sightings by the police, such as encounters with UFOs, psychics providing very accurate information and what appear to be the spirits of the deceased aiding in the investigation. You can't provide much more evidence then this.

5.0 out of 5 stars Outstandingly interesting, June 21, 2002
This review is from: Hidden Files: Law Enforcement's True Case Stories of the Unexplained and Paranormal (Paperback)
I found out about this book while looking for another book by the author ("Be Alert, Be Aware, Have A Plan")and found it to be extremely interesting. "Hidden Files" is a collection of detailed stories of the unexplained, and is well-written, and very entertaining, but with that added twist of being true
stories from cops from the US and Canada. Definitely definitely recommended for a fast and very enjoyable read.

This review is from: Hidden Files: Law Enforcement's True Case Stories of the Unexplained and Paranormal (Paperback)
This book comprises several different cases, each markedly different from the other. A young mother's ghost waits by the roadside, alerting a young officer that her child is still alive inside the wreckage of her car. A haunted police barracks. The mysterious disappearance and murder of a San Jose woman. Was her boyfriend mentally ill or does voodoo really exist? The use of a psychic in a brutal murder case. It was all good stuff.
