Book Description

September 16, 2002
This title is not about the exotic land itself, but rather the hidden glory of Vaishnavism. It may not be the most well-known form of Hinduism but it is India's richest and most significant religious tradition. This book focuses on the Vaishnava tradition and its contemporary manifestations.

5.0 out of 5 stars Indian culture unveiled, September 8, 2004
This review is from: The Hidden Glory of India (Paperback)
This book gave me a deep insight into the Indian culture and it's spiritual roots. When I heard about India I was always attracted to its mysticism and colorful culture but wasn't able to understand the meaning of all the details of life in India. This book opened my eyes and gave me an understanding about the Indian, or better to say Vedic, perspective on life and it's meaning as well as the origin of the belief in the "holy cows" and worship of many different personalities.
Altogether it is a guidebook to Indian religion, culture and life in general.

4.0 out of 5 stars Glossy & glitzy look at Hinduism., July 13, 2009

Make sure you read the description and check out the 'Look Inside' feature above. This book is about the religions of India - not about India in general.

Virtually the entire book is about Hinduism. There are plenty of pictures, diagrams and maps to accompany the descriptions. For someone (like me) wanting an overview of Hinduism, this was a very helpful book.

The only negatives: it was too 'busy' and it didn't go into the actual day-to-day practices. For a primer, this is a good choice.

4.0 out of 5 stars Ideal to teach kids about Indian Mythology, March 14, 2006
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: The Hidden Glory of India (Paperback)
This book's speciality is its simplicity. It has two pages dedicated for each mythological character, relegion and festivals. It gives an easy-to-understand explanation for each with some illustrations. Good reading for adults and school-going children. I have decided to buy multiple copies and give it as a birthday gift all year long to various people.
