4.0 out of 5 stars Is their romance really just pretend?, May 10, 2003
This review is from: The Hidden Heart (Signet Regency Romance) (Paperback)
Miles thought that nothing would ever come of the tiny little fib he told to pacify an elderly aunt. He was wrong! His aunt does not believe the lie, namely that Miles is engaged, and she is journeying to his country estate with her idea of the perfect bride...and she's not leaving until Miles IS engaged. Miles, in sheer panic of the noose some people call matrimony, begs his long time friend, Caroline, to pretend to be his intended.

What Miles doesn't know is that his "best friend" has secretly been in love with him for the past six years. Can Caroline convince Miles to make their engagement real...or will he break her heart all over again?

5.0 out of 5 stars A heart warming romance, May 22, 2011
I found this book on accident at my library and absolutely loved it (I've also probably read it 10 times now). It's a story about a strong, young woman, Caroline who, despite trying, cannot stop loving her handsome best friend, Miles, who she has loved for 6 years. When Miles' aunt decides that she doesn't believe he is actually engaged, and brings along another woman to marry him off to, Miles enlists the help of his best friend to fake his engagement. Yes, the plot line is often overused, but the feel of English aristocracy that is in this novel makes the story amusing and a wonderful light read. Caroline's subtle fight with the woman that Miles' aunt has brought for Miles' hand along with Miles' cluelessness will make you laugh, and their romance will definitely make you all warm and fuzzy inside. :)

4.0 out of 5 stars Fell Short, October 9, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: The Hidden Heart (Kindle Edition)
I had high hopes for this book, but found myself disappointed when I finished. When I first started I was instantly captivated by Caroline, the heroine. She's headstrong and witty, but isn't over the top. I also really enjoyed all of the dialogue in the book; it was all very believable. This book fell a bit short for me, because the book itself was too short! All of a sudden I was 90% of the way through it and the main characters still hadn't had much interaction, let alone enough to fall in love. I also thought that the hero's reason for not noticing Carolina was extremely weak and unrealistic. It was a captivating, well written story, with great characters, but I just wanted more.
