Product Description

Sharad LeMaster ran away from his own cult, and tried to hide from his followers by taking a desk job in a motel in the middle of nowhere, but when a certain lazy ghost from his past reappears, Sharad is lured into a haunted house and becomes the proud possession of the witch Eugenia, and gets caught between rival black-market magic-potion dealers in their fight over a girl who just happens to possess the most perfect skull ever for turning into a shrunken head.

The official product description on the product page does not give a good idea as to what this book is about. The official description makes this download sound like a magical fantasy adventure, which it is...but only to a certain extent. This story is actually only a conversation between two gossips, who relay some supernatural info to each other about people that they both know.

STORY - A certain motel sits in the middle on nowhere; it's only guests are either people who want total seclusion or people who are lost. Two of the hard workers in this motel, Roland and Josefa, take a break one night to gossip about the guests, workers, and ghosts in or around the motel. The true story of this download is within the gossip that these two workers relate to each other. By the end, a full story of magic and scheming has been told through all of the rumors that have been shared.

WRITING STYLE - The first thing that I have to mention about this author is unfortunately negative: he introduced WAY too many characters. There were so many names flying around in Roland's and Josefas's stories that they obviously both knew, but because the reader doesn't know these characters, all of the names get quite jumbled, and certain characters will get mixed up if the reader isn't taking notes on who's who.

However, despite the overpowering amount of characters introduced, the author definitely was not a bad writer at all! He kept the story going well throughout the entire download, never really losing momentum in the story. This isn't the only aspect of the author's storytelling that is well done, though; he also shows brilliantly how the many characters interact together and how they are related to each other. Really, the fact that this author can tell such an in depth story through one conversation is quite remarkable indeed.

Still, the fact that it's just one conversation in which the reader is constantly being reminded whether Roland or Josefa is speaking makes the story a bit choppy and ultimately slightly boring. By the end of the story, I was tired of seeing "Roland said" or "Josefa giggled." I just wanted the story and not all of the extraneous reactions of the two gossipers, because the story would have been much more fascinating without all of the breaks in between.

OVERALL - There are definite flaws with this download, but at the same time, the author gives us an interesting story and tells it to us well. Sure, he could have make it a little less choppy and taken out a few of the overabundant characters, but he still wrote a decent story. I'd recommend the story to a reader who is willing to somehow keep all of the characters separate; this probably isn't a good ebook for just a casual read-through, though. But as long as the reader can keep everything straight, I think this is quite an enjoyable fantasy story.

More About the Author

I write books across a lot of different genres and styles. I've got some sci-fi, some mystery, some satire, some young adult, a little kids' book, and some just plain old-fashioned stories. Most are short and easy to read, are sometimes funny and often feature unexpected endings.

Some of my books are related to each other, sharing characters, locales and plots.

Snapdragon Alley, Freak City and Dragon Town comprise "The Dragon City Trilogy"

The "All Geeked Up" collection includes World Weary Avengers, Ledman Pickup, and In Constant Contact

"The Secret Trilogy" is 'Chaos Fiction' and includes Squatter with a Lexus, Secret Sidewalk, and Hidden Highway

"Rays and Nights" is a collection of cross-genre stories that share certain characters, and includes the faux-horror Zombie Nights, the sci-fi Death Ray Butterfly and the coming-of age stories of Raisinheart

Fissure Monroe features the intrepid private eye, Dawn Debris.

Missy Tonight follows Orange Car with Stripes in these stories of Atheist Comic Sci-Fi Pulp Fiction.

Golden is a screenplay based on Time Zone. Jimmyland is a screenplay based on Phantom of the Mall.

Inspector Mole pops up all over the place.

If you like one, chances are you'll like another, and if you don't, well, thanks for giving it a try!
