This is a great hitch! It fit my 2012 Subaru Outback perfectly. I found a video online for installation tips, watched it once, and referred to the included instructions a few times, resulting in a smooth installation with no skinned knuckles and a minimum of cussing. I did the install by myself, but a second pair of hands would have been helpful.

I'd have thought after numerous complaints on other hitch sites about the scratches and dings experienced during shipping that the manufacturer would have gotten the message.

Nope. Hitch came in a box way too big for it with absolutely no packing material, so item bounced on edge and punched holes through the cardboard box, dinging every corner of the hitch.

It's a hunk of metal and I am sure it will perform as designed, but if aesthetics or keeping rust at bay are important to you, other brands may take better care in shipping conditions.

I'll follow up with install experience soon.

Hitch looks very well made. It was installed on 2014 Subaru Outback 3.6R (two mufflers) despite Amazon site said it doesn't feet on Outback 2014. I checked the item number on other sites it was the same others used for Outback 2014. Amazon was about $50 cheaper than others, but it took about 1 month to receive the hitch. No blame, it was clearly shown on the site that it can take 1 to 3 months to ship the item. This is my suggestion about installation. Remove mufflers, it makes access much easier. Don't need to drill holes to insert bolts into car rear frame, just remove rear bumper. It should not take more than 20 -30 minutes to remove it. There are three clips under bumper in the middle, two clips and one small bolt on the back of rear wheels arches, one clip behind rear wheels mud guards. Look at the page 11-5 of the user manual about how to remove clips without breaking them. There is a video on YouTube about removing plastic bumper cover from WRX. Clips placement is different but removal process is similar. After removing bumper plastic cover you get the access to bumper rail. Unscrew 8 nuts and you get the access to the car rear frame. For everything else follow instructions provided with the hitch and etrailer.com customers reviews.

Installed on 2013 Subaru Legacy. It worked perfectly without any drilling or physical changes to the vehicle. I highly recommend removing the rear bumper instead of drilling access holes in the frame. I used an excellent video on the internet for instructions to remove the bumper. Also, I completely removed the muffler. (two bolts) It took slightly longer than others have reported, (2 hours) . This was clean and easy with no worry of voiding the original warranty. It could be removed without a trace. It looks great.
