4.0 out of 5 stars Very Good
Wow! This book was great! I only put out *4* because I had to skim through a bit from it getting to plain at times. But, I must say, It was great and I LOVE to see a Strong herione! Pearl was great. She stood up straight when her father and mother slouched and made the whole family survive. Yeaa! I love the way the ending turned out... Happy, Happy, Joy, Joy. The part I...

3.0 out of 5 stars A Gem of a Book
I can't say that this is the best book in the Landry series. I liked the other daughters' (Annie, Christie) stories, but this book isn't bad and deserves a decent 3 out of 5 stars. I'm sorry to say that a death triggers the series of events here, that's what happened to Annie and Christie and so felt rather repetitive, but this book is overall a decent read. Remember...

The part I disliked was about Ruby. I always liked her as a strong girl, too, but this book made her seem to caught up in evil forces to even care about her family. I would have thought she'd be more level-headed, like her daughter. Some parts were unexpected and great.

Way to go, Neiderman!

4.0 out of 5 stars My favorite of the series so far..., December 9, 2005
I thought the first 3 book in the series were just o.k. & I was glad to see that this 4th book finally pulled me into it. This book is about Pearl, Ruby's daughter. This book was adventurous & took you back & fourth to the Bayou. I couldn't understand how Pearl recall as much as she did from her childhood when she lived in the Bayou because wasn't she like 9 months or something like that when she lived there? This is my least favorite series of V.C. Andrews's series but I did enjoy this book.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Jewel of a Book!!!, March 5, 1998
By A Customer
This book is really a Hidden Jewel, because it was truly hidden behind the other weak Landry books (Ruby, Pearl in the Mist, & All that Glitters). Tarnished Gold, the last book in the Landry series, was a great book, too, but Hidden Jewel is the best in the Landry series. Pearl is such a strong character that I was shocked. I'm so used to reading such weak female characters such as the women in the Cutler series and Annie in the Casteel series. No incest theme ran amok throughout this book and the parents didn't get killed in this book. Finally!!! Now this is a must read book. If you read the other Landry books, don't stop because of those books' weak storylines please read Hidden Jewel and Tarnished Gold. Hidden Jewel is TRULY the best book in the series. I'm so glad I found this Hidden Jewel.

5.0 out of 5 stars Simply...Marvelous!, December 19, 1996
By A Customer
I must be one of V.C. Andrews biggest fans! I have her
entire collection (ranging all the way from Flowers in the
Attic up until her most recent book, Melody). I rate all of
her books with a 10, except for Garden of Shadows; I rate
that particular book with about a 7. This is due to the fact
that I didn't care too much for the main character in this
novel (Bart). I especially, didn't too much take to his
childish, and somewhat neurotic behavior; all of which I
thought the author prolonged. Personally I was not too
enthused over Garden of Shadows. But you know what they
say...."For every 'good' bunch, there must be at least one
rotten apple." (Or is that just what I say?)
I hope I haven't discouraged anyone from reading this book,
because we all have, and are entitled to different opinions.
Well, I hope each and everyone of you V.C. Andrews readers
enjoys her collection in its entirety (I know I do, of
course, with that one exception). Oh, by the way, my favorite
books in the collection happen to be the: Casteel Series,
Cutler Family Series, My Sweet Audrina, Landry Series, and
the-soon-to-be new Logan Series.
Have fun reading these exciting, and spellbinding stories...
"Kiddies"!
Devoted Fan,
V.H. :)

Remember Buster Trahaw? You thought he was gone forever, didn't you? Oh ho ho. And surprisingly, Gladys also comes back - so this story is still an exciting read.

5.0 out of 5 stars Hidden Away., September 23, 2008
I love that it takes place in the early 80's of Garden District. Ruby and her family are finally happy!

I didn't like that the handsome -tanned sultry with soft pink lips- Beau turned into a secluded bachellor! Not there is anything wrong with that!!!!! Ruby looks awful and rented out- like another D!! I love the magic which is needed in order for Pearl to bring her family together again!

The finale of finding "mom" was so freakish to me! That's what created a thrill for US- the gay readers! I also love the how Pearl finally learned the ways of "earning her juice" at the end of the book!!!

3.0 out of 5 stars Good Book, July 5, 2008
This book for me was a little boring in the beginning. I felt as though it would have been more interesting if Ruby was narrorating the story. But as I read it more, it really did interest me. My favorite book from the Landry series is "All that Glitters". All in all, it was a good book, glad that they all were happy in the end.

5.0 out of 5 stars Powerful story in Cajun country, October 31, 2002
By
This story blew me away. Pierre had taken the passing of his twin Jean very hard. So did the rest of the family. Jean was so funny. Even though Jean had pulled the practical joke with Pearl's graduation cap, his parents couldn't stay mad at him very long. I thought it was good that Pearl got firm with her dad Beau when he was drinking too heavily when her mom Ruby was missing. I was glad for Pearl when she met Jack Clovis, a man whom she could trust. I would like to hear another story from Pearl when she finished college and succeeds in medical school. I believe Ruby and Beau are right to insist that Pearl fulfills her potential.
