A true Heart-felt,eye opening book!!,
By Fisherman2006 (Illinois) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Hidden Monster: Pedophilia (Paperback)
I have read many books on this issue, and it was very touching to hear from a victim, perpatrator, and a survivor, like Shawn Michael Dove. It was very brave, and it had to be very hard to write a book like this---sharing his heart with hopefully thousands of others. He was very encouraging, letting victims know of their innocence, and letting the victims know that it is ok to share their heartaches, and pains with people and to get the help that they need. Very empowering book, a must read...

This review is from: The Hidden Monster: Pedophilia (Paperback)
I had to do a book review on this topic for my Abnormal Psyc course. I chose this book because it was claimed to written by a "Victim, a Pedophile, and a Survivor." First let me tell you that Shawn Michael Dove does not once say he was a victim of Pedophilia. In fact, the only thing said about his childhood is that it was "stormy," and the only abuse he took was "mental, physical, and psychological."
This book is NOT written by a victim of Pedophilia. It is written by a Pedophile trying to purge his guilty conscious under the guise of helping victims. Well I can tell you that pretending to be a victim in order to build an ethos for your diatribe undermines anything that the author could say. His deceitful ways continue when he claims to be a "victim." I am disgusted with that aspect of the book. Objectively speaking, the book is worthless. There are numbers and statistics thrown around without any backing. Most of it is opinion and conjecture. The bulk of the writing is inarticulate and full of misspelled words and very poor grammar. Shawn apparently never made it past Junior High, as his writing style is quite juvenile. Throughout the book he uses bold uppercase words in extra large fonts for emphasis. Much of what is said is repeated over and over. The complete lack of articulation serves to implicate the Editor who was supposed to proofread the work before publication. There were however, two good things I can say about this book. Shawn does do a decent job of describing the level of deceit and harm a Pedophile will sink too. While most of that knowledge is already known, it was nice to see Shawn expose his techniques. This was an affirmation to what I have already learned. I imagine a lay parent could use this as a primer on how to protect your children. The second positive aspect of this book is that because of the simpleton writing style, it can be read in under an hour.

What a compleat waste of money! This book is full of the author's opinions, repeated over and over, as well as conjecture. I learned nothing new. No case studies; nothing interesting at all. Skip this one.

A mistake from the start!,

This book in all accounts is a mistake. It is nothing but whinning for like 100 pgs. I wanted a good book with some facts. This was made up facts, and the same made up lines over and over. Along with this made up fact book, there are several grammer and spelling errors. Im sorry but it was just bad in every way something can be.

Maybe he's ahem...biased? Perhaps a clearer review of this book is needed.

I believe it to be repulsive what pedophiles do when given the advantage over a child. The book The Hidden Monster: Pedophilia is an excellent introduction into the threat of these perverts everywhere.
