5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent layout and variety of content.
Braeking the state up into sections, the author does an excellent job of describing and presenting the various highlights of each. Equal treatment is given to popular and off-the-beaten-path areas, with sufficient detail for each. It made my recent visit more enjoyable!

3.0 out of 5 stars Not so hidden
Many of the "hidden" highlights of this book are really not so hidden---that is to say, they are bread and breakfast inns and restaurants or museums one would have been likely to find anyway. I was really hoping to find more hidden wildlife sights, trails and fishing spots or scenic views not generally covered in all the other tourist resources.

The book...

5.0 out of 5 stars Hidden Montana, August 1, 2007
This book was a wonderful guide to the areas of Montana we traveled through. There were several things we would not have seen if it hadn't been for the suggestions in the book and some excellent restaurants we wouldn't have stopped at if they had not been recommended by the book. We plan to get another "hidden" book for our next trip.

The book provides a descent list of places to visit, don't get me wrong. There are lots of exciting adventures available in Montana, and this volume covers many.

But I really expended the book to unearth more "hidden" gems than it in fact does. While overall a good book, and worth its price, this travel guide does not entirely live up to the expectation created by the series title.

I live in Montana and was looking for a guidebook to help plan weekend trips and to find new places to visit in the area. I was very disappointed with this book!

The author doesn't seem to know much about the state and I kept getting the feeling that he had just passed through quickly - perhaps picking up a newspaper here or there. For example, and "author favorite" in Missoula is the Holiday Inn - something that is not even notable in our city and that is certainly not "hidden." None of my favorite places, hikes, or restaurants are listed - and while i don't expect all of them, I do expect to see some knowledge of the area.

This book might be fine for people passing through once and looking for any type of meal or a place to stay, but it certainly does not list the special, hidden, or great parts of Montana that any resident (or regular traveler) is familiar with. You would have better luck stopping at a gas station and asking the convenience store clerk where his favorite restaurant, fishing access, camping site, and swimming hole is. And perhaps that's the way Montana should stay.

5.0 out of 5 stars hidden Montana - Awesome reasource, September 11, 2008
I took my family on a driving trip through Montana, and this book proved to be an excellent resource for discovering the somewhat undiscovered, as well as guiding us through the more mainstream sights, attractions, restaurants, and accommodations throughout the state. A must have if you are traveling through the great state of Montana.

5.0 out of 5 stars Covers inns, tours, drives, and outdoors explorations, September 12, 2001
This review is from: Hidden Montana 3 Ed (Paperback)
Hidden Montana appears in its third edition to cover inns, tours, drives, and outdoors explorations throughout the state. From Glacier Park to Yellowstone, this is packed with lesser-known byways. Recommended.
