Discover the simply spectacular beauty of Napoli, January 10, 2004
This review is from: Hidden Naples and the Amalfi Coast (Hardcover)
This is a beautiful photographic essay of one of the ost beautiful - and underrated - cities in Italy. It's not very long, as the book covers a mere fraction of the wonders of Naples (the ancient Neapolis and Partenope dedicated to Athena by the Gods and older than Rome and its surrounding coast) but the subjects that the authors have chosen are worthy to be featured in such a book. In fact I appreciated the absence of cliché images and views giving an added originality to the treatment. As a final note, I was simply happy to see a book finally featuring anything other than Tuscany and Florence, which have become almost separate entities from the rest of Italy in many foreign travelers' eyes, as if they wanted to take it away and make it their own....isn't that right Ms. Frances Mayes...?
