Discover Nuggets of Truth Hidden in the Bible

Does your mind start to wander when you come to the genealogies, lists of numbers, and confusing prophecies in the Bible? Have you ever wondered Why did God include all these obscure laws? Trusted Bible scholar Boyd Seevers uncovers the hidden treasures in some of the lesser-known sections of the Bible. For example, he reveals what heads and horns and beasts symbolize in the apocalyptic prophecies and why there's a law in Deuteronomy that roofs must have walls around them. Once you understand why God included the seemingly uninteresting or difficult passages and how to unlock them on your own, your Bible study will come alive and you'll connect to God in new ways.

Includes discussion questions to help your small group get the most out of their Bible reading.

This gives you a good overview. Helps to understand why some books of the Bible are harder to read than others and why they were written. But I feel that there are more in these books, but maybe that info is not really in plain sight.

Hidden in Plain Sight is a great read. It is very informative while being written in a casual, conversational style that even includes some humor. The author tackles some challenging parts of the Bible and brings clarity to them. He poses and answers some common questions about the topics he covers and makes good use of his college students and their comments in addition to sharing his own insights. I highly recommend this book and believe that anyone who has an interest in the Bible will enjoy it and will benefit from reading it.

For those looking for some basic tips on how to get the most out of their Bible reading, Hidden in Plain Sight is a great place to start. If you are wondering how to approach figurative prophecy, what we can learn from Old Testament laws, why genealogies are important, or why some books of the Bible seem to be a bit repetitive, I think you'll enjoy learning from Seevers' helpful pointers, light humor and appreciation for the Bible and God's sovereign plan told within it.

Hidden in Plain Sight is a good introductory resource to help understand how to approach challenging portions of the Bible, and most specifically, those found in the Old Testament. What I like about Seevers' approach is that he doesn't throw the kitchen sink of interpretive methods at readers, but gives them the baseline tips they need to begin exploring and finding meaning - on their own - in seemingly mundane parts of the Bible. A PhD who holds a high view of Scripture admitting that he finds some parts of the Bible "weird" or "boring" is refreshing. I think readers will enjoy this type of intellectual honesty from a scholar and it should offer hope to those just learning how to get the most out of their Bibles that even the experts wrestle with many parts of the text.

This would be a good text for adult Sunday School teachers, lay ministers and those just wanting to get more out of their personal Bible study.
