5.0 out of 5 stars Not just a great read - a great re-read!, January 26, 2000
This review is from: Hidden Talents (Paperback)
Yes, I have read this book several times. It is just as good the fourth time as the first. If you like your books with strong male and female characters, you will like Jayne Krentz. Serenity is not like many female characters I have read, she is gentle but strong, caring and loyal. I love her uniqueness and her 'alternative' lifestyle. Caleb is a man who never really knew if he was loved and does not really believe it exists. The two meet amidst a murder mystery which they try to solve as well as putting their own lives back together. What a great couple. And I loved the secondary characters! I think you will too.

5.0 out of 5 stars One of her best, August 31, 1998
I have read every book Jayne Ann Krentz has ever written--several times--and this is one of her best. She does strange and unusual characters especially well, and this book abounds with REALLY strange ones. But they are all endearing, even the strangest of them turn out to have their strong points, and the characters grow and change over the course of the novel. This one will make you laugh. It may also make you cry--just a little. Definitely a keeper.

5.0 out of 5 stars One of Jayne Ann Krentz's bests!, December 3, 2000

I truly enjoy Ms. Krentz's books, and Hidden Talents is one of my favorites. The character development is great, the chemistry between Serenity and Caleb is wonderful, and who can resist the quirky, off-beat inhabitants of Witt's End? Pick this one up and see if you can find a bottle of "Ole Hogwash" (a Witt's End product) to drink while you read. Enjoy!ps - If you enjoyed this one, be sure to try Absolutely Positively, Trust Me and Deep Waters. You won't be disappointed!

5.0 out of 5 stars One of Krentz's Best!, May 1, 2004

This book is not perfect so maybe I shouldn't have given it 5 stars, but it is definitely better than 99% of the romances out there. Serenity and Caleb are wonderful together and although the dialogue was not as snappy as some of the JAKs I've read that is more than made up for by the characters' warmth and caring. Once Serenity and Caleb work out their initial problem their relationship never looks back. Conflict comes from outside and throughout the book they get through things by depending on each other. To me this is what love and romance are all about. As usual Ms. Krentz writes some great secondary characters and a fairly good mystery. I must agree with another reviewer though that Serenity's ex-boyfriend is a pure annoyance and not cute or charming at all. But I did find the prologue and epilogue funny. All in all, very highly recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Book Worth Buying, and Re-reading for Years to Come!, December 28, 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: Hidden Talents (Paperback)
Caleb Ventress & Serenity Makepeace. Great characters. People that I would hang out with...if they were real :-)

Caleb doesn't want to feel, because he has been hurt. Serenity is a strong woman, who feels, loves, and is a bit out of the ordinary. There are many twists and turns in their relationship, which is what gives us a reason to read the book, but they end up happy, together, and well. The secondary characters, those in Witts End, and Ventress Valley, are well put together and enhance the storyline.

As with the majority of Jayne Ann Krentz/Amanda Quick books, the characters are off beat, the suspense is great, the romance is exceptional, and the story is worth your time.

There is nothing like a Jayne Ann Krenz to sit down for a good read with. I especially like the fact that this work has an epiloge.

Thanks, Ms. Krentz, for the book! Write more like this, please!

The characters who make up the small town of Witt's End are depicted lovingly and with great humor. Jayne Ann Krentz' forte is characterization. But never underestimate her way with plot, either. The murder mystery is gripping.

4.0 out of 5 stars Back Page, March 11, 2008

Serenity Makepeace knows a lot about whole-grain bread, but she doesn't know beans about business. She's expanding her natural foods emporium to sell local handicrafts by mail-which she hopes will benefit her offbeat artist community in Witt's End Washington. But she needs a crack fincial adviser to make her dream a reality-so she charms her way into the office of Caleb Ventress, a handsome wolf in conservative clothing.

An expert in the art of the deal, Caleb isn't sure what to make of the unconventional Serentity-but there's no doubt he's attracted. A pass from a paragon of conformity-even one as handsome as Caleb-is more than free spirited Serenity bargained for. But when a lethal blackmailer threatens her plans and perhaps her life, she puts her whole trust in the man who seems her complete opposite-and the net result might be true love.

4.0 out of 5 stars Curiouser and curiouser..., November 30, 1999

I enjoyed the read. The best parts were those little snippets of visions in the cove. Her jerk of an ex-boyfriend was not funny and not cute. He was annoying as hell and really could have been written differently. Serenity had the best end of the deal in her realtionship with Caleb. They were great together. The main problem I had was in her soft-hearted approach to her slime of an ex.

5.0 out of 5 stars Could Not Put It Down - Great!!!, January 4, 2012
I fell in love with Caleb and Serenity. The chemistry between the two characters was amazing. At the end of the book the dialogue between Caleb, Roland and Blade was hysterical. Sure the story may have been fetched at times and the characters were an unlikely pair, still I found it very entertaining and a light read. The other two books I read by this author paled in comparison. So glad I gave this book a try.

5.0 out of 5 stars one of her best, January 16, 2011

As several other reviewers say, this is one of the author's best. This book doesn't so much have the snappy dialogue, but the main characters are two of her most interesting and endearing. Serenity is caring and gentle, with lots of inner strength. She is also on the quirky side along with all the other members of her small family-like community. She makes a nice contrast to Caleb whose life is rigidly conventional until he meets Serenity and senses in her things that he badly needs. Serenity's community is a character in itself, one that you wish were real.
