Adam Livingston-Raider of the Lost Arks,
By SM "sm-1" (Washington, USA) - See all my reviews
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Hidden in Time (The Livingstone Chronicles #2) (Paperback)
This book takes up where "Rift in Time" left off. Adam, Juliet and the whole gang are back for more of Adam's adventures and ideas. Will he get Noah's ark off the mountain? And what is up with The Ark of the Covenant? Is it the real thing? Has it been destroyed? Alot of action in this book, with Adam getting himself into one dangerous situation after another. I really enjoyed it, though I'm waiting for a third............ Mr. Phillips, I want a wedding!!!!!!!!! That is my only complaint. Compared to "Rift" I think this one could have used a bit more romance. But other than that, A+ and 5 stars.

Prepare to give up sleep for a while...,
By Patrick (Springfield, Missouri USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Hidden in Time (The Livingstone Chronicles #2) (Paperback)
The story of two arks and their impact on the world. This book picks up where Michael Phillips' first book, "A Rift In Time", left off. Adam Livingstone and his team are back to recover Noah's Ark while persuing information on the history of the Ark of the Covenant. Imagine the impact on the world of the discovery of the two arks. Great read! Be prepared not to sleep for a while...this book is a page turner!

Much better than the first book,

This review is from: Hidden in Time (The Livingstone Chronicles #2) (Paperback)
I thought that this book was much better than the previous one. The action in this one was well written, and I thought the characters were more human. Adam Livingstone & his crew have found Noah's ark, and have seemingly located the Ark of the Covenant. However, the shadowy forces from the first book are back to foil Adam's plans. About the only things I didn't like about the book are the following: Juliet seems to be pretty whiny during the middle part of the book. I understand that it makes her seem more "real," but it's kind of annoying. Second, the names tossed around with the Council of Twelve (Masons, Illuminati, etc.) really do nothing to advance the story. Rather, they seem to feed into the conspiracy buffs that are against those organizations. Overall though, this is a fast reading, engaging book & I would recommend it. I wonder if there will be a third?

GREAT! Better than A Rift In Time!,
By
This review is from: Hidden in Time (The Livingstone Chronicles #2) (Paperback)
This book is even greater than its prequel! I could not put it down (just like "A Rift...")! What makes "Hidden" better is the revival of interest in the Bible being stirred up by the recovery of the arks and the subsequent spiritual revival of the world. I honestly believe that if Noah's Ark and the Ark of the Covenant were found that people would be forced to believe in what the Bible says. The Bible has been proven true by historians time and time again, but if actual artifacts were to be found! WOW! Anyways, I was also touched by the numerous conversions depicted in the book. I have been "drifting" as of late, and "Hidden" really got me thinking about things. I can also identify with Juliet Halsay. We have a similar nature, and I often feel uncertain of myself, much as she did. It was nice having fallible heroines and heroes for a change! (This book also made me cry, which is a sign of a truly great piece of literature-I never cry!) Anyways, if you like Indiana Jones and Biblical Archaeology, this book (and its predecessor, "A Rift In Time") is definitely for you! I'm only hoping there will be a 3rd book to close out a trilogy!

strong "Left Behind" like tale,
This review is from: Hidden in Time (The Livingstone Chronicles #2) (Paperback)
Many people would rest on their laurels after making two incredible discoveries that substantiate much of the Old Testament, but not archeologist Adam Livingstone. Though acclaimed as the top in his field after locating Noah's Ark and pinpointing the Garden of Eden (see RIFT IN TIME), Adam has changed from an apathetic agnostic into a true believer. He feels he needs to prove that God's words are real. So he and his team are in Aksum, Ethiopia seeking proof that the Ark of the Covenant exists in the St. Mary's of Zion Cathedral's Sanctuary, but the endeavor fails. The powerful Council of Twelve believes e opposite. They are concerned about Adam's recent discoveries and watch his every move in Ethiopia for obviously the Ark was allegedly kept there. Though within the twelve there is a major rift, the prime commandment remains stopping Adam from further proving that God exists. They plan to do more than just take pictures of the Ark. This exciting sequel is loaded with action and strong characters. It also contains a powerfully interwoven message that God wants his children to come home. The story line is fast-paced never missing a beat as the countdown to the end times start. Adam and his crew are a delightful group who begins to realize that he is a modern day prophet though the villains (except one) seem a bit inane in their petty posturing when an eternal "kingdom" seems at stake. Still the Left Behind crowd and fans of apocalyptic tales will want to read this novel, its predecessor, and other works by Michael Phillips. Harriet Klausner

Some of the best Christian literature out there,
This review is from: Hidden in Time (The Livingstone Chronicles #2) (Paperback)
The Rift In Time series is some of the best Christian Literature out there. Both the quality of the writing and the depth of ideas are every bit as good as We all Fall Down, probably the best Christian novel ever written. So much Christian literature is written with the assumption that a Christian audience is the same as an unthinking audience...

Keep reading to the second half.,

This review is from: Hidden in Time (The Livingstone Chronicles #2) (Paperback)
I found the first half of the book less than I expected. If you can make it through the first half, it picks up and then becomes a good sequel to the first book. It seems like we are left hanging, so I wonder if there will be a third. And in that case, I wonder which direction that will take. I sure hope it would continue to the thoughtful, researched, biblically based fiction we've read so far.

Not as good as A Rift in Time,
By A Customer
This review is from: Hidden in Time (The Livingstone Chronicles #2) (Paperback)
This book reads like it was rushed into publication. There are a number of errors throughout, such as one or two narrative disparities w/ book #1, VERY improbable scenarios and plot tweaking, and some embarrassing misstatements that don't square with the book's temporal setting (end of the 20th century). I also feel this book lacks the theological depth and impact of book #1. It is altogether too "Indiana Jones meets Mission Impossible" for me. After all the team's searching, plus being chased and harrassed by the bad guys throughout much of the book, the finding of the real Ark of the Covenant comes, unfortunately, as something of a let-down. That scene could have been presented better. This book is good, and I did have trouble putting it down, but it just wasn't *great* like Rift was. A book #3 does seem to be in order -- book #2 finishes up with some rather large loose ends dangling. To Mr. Phillips: please take your time completing #3... we can wait! Iron out any little glitches first. :0)

Well Worth The Read,

This review is from: Hidden in Time (The Livingstone Chronicles #2) (Paperback)
I must admit that I am a fan of Michael Phillips, which I became after reading the first book in this series. This series is fascinating because it brings together two areas that I love...archeology and my Christianity. What an adventure, to search for the Garden Of Eden! I finished the book, wishing that it had really happened. Entertaining and thought-provoking at the same time. Well worth the read!

I've just finished "Hidden In Time" and I enjoyed it. I'm an avid follower of documentaries and other news stories on the search for the Ark of the Covenant and Noah's Ark, as well as other archaeological news, especially pertaining to the Bible. (He also has some characters from the Oak Ridge and Knoxville, TN area -- where I'm located.)Phillips paints likeable characters. The archaeology aspect of the book holds true to much of what is being discussed about where certain items may be. Phillips also made a few simple truths understandable for me. |
