Book Description

In 1820 a notorious Spanish pirate was caught in a fierce battle along the California coastline, narrowly escaping into the foothills with a priceless treasure. Now, almost 200 years later, the legendary pirate’s skeletal remains are discovered in the quiet coastal town of Knightsbridge, California, along with a tantalizing clue to the treasure’s whereabouts. As news of the discovery spreads, the town is swamped with thousands of amateur treasure seekers as well as Treasure Finders Incorporated, a powerful organization with an impressive track record of discoveries.

When classmates Will, Mikey, Susan, and Evelyn learn of the discovery, they are unable to resist the urge to join in the hunt. With Will's knowledge of the outdoors, Mikey's electronics expertise, Susan's computer wizardry, and Evelyn's photography skills, they are certain they can unravel the pirate's secret. Facing long odds, the seventh-graders embark on an adventure of a lifetime, discovering that the mystery deepens as they desperately hunt for clues, decipher historical landmarks, and match wits with their ruthless competitors.

5.0 out of 5 stars Loved this book! March 28, 2013

This is a great book to read with your kids! Its very cleverly written, appealing to kids with its mix of modern day adventure, and enduring lure of ancient hidden treasure. The book sets the tone all parents look for, with its mix of smart, friendly and outgoing characters, and it has just enough "kid like" behavior to strike a chord with children; with canoe rides in the dark, toy airplanes serving as surveillance, and a beach house hideout. Aged 8 and 5, my sons both loved the book, and continue to talk about hidden treasure and writing their own adventure stories, days after finishing the book. Now - that's a sign of a terrific book! Read it today!

5.0 out of 5 stars An Inviting Blend of Mystery and History May 21, 2013
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
What child doesn't love a good treasure hunt? For that matter, what adult doesn't? Although this book is intended for middle-grade readers, I am in my mid-thirties and found it an exciting and intriguing read. The authors take care to give enough clues to help the reader solve the puzzle without giving away the actual hiding place of the pirate's treasure. The tale is a splendid mix of historical facts, fictional additions and loveable characters.

The kids are down-to-earth, but unlike those in most novels for this age group, they are respectful of adults (especially their parents) and of other kids as well. Each character has his/her own unique personality, showcasing his/her talents, which I feel serves as a good reminder to young people that we are not all the same nor should we try to be. God has created each of us in the way He saw fit, and we should cherish our gifts and figure out how to use them to help others. This is exactly what the group of main characters do, and by combining their individual talents, they discover that they make a great team.

The story line is easy to follow, but complex enough to keep the adult reader hooked. The plot is suspenseful and believable. I enjoyed the story from beginning to end. At times, I rushed through, trying to get to the end so that I could unravel the mystery. But when I did reach the end, I felt a sudden sense of loss. I didn't want the story to be over. In my mind, there could be no better quality to a good book.

I am unsure if this book is considered Christian fiction, but I do not remember any questionable elements within its pages. As memory serves, it was a clean, delightful book, one that I would definitely recommend to children and adults alike.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great for Kids and Parents April 4, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
My 8-year-old son read "The Hunt for the Well Hidden Treasure" on the Kindle and loved it. He read it non-stop and finished in 3 days. As a parent, I enjoyed it as well. Great characters and action. The book is a welcome change to "Diary of a Wimpy Kid" and "Captain Underpants," which my son and his peers typically read. We can't wait for book two in this new K.I.D.S. Adventure Series.

5.0 out of 5 stars According to a 7 year old May 7, 2013
By Avery
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
My seven year old son recently read this book and was glued to it all weekend. He decided to write a review of the book as a homework assignment and I couldn't resist sharing it here. In his words.....I like the book about the well hidden treasure because it's full of clues and mystery solving. I kept reading the book because it was full of surprises and it kept me curious. I also like this book because it has lots of different characters. I also liked the story because it made me feel like I was in the story. My favorite character was Will because he was the character with the most details. I think others would like this book because 1) It's full of details which I like. 2) It has a lot of characters. 3) A lot of curiousity and fun facts about how to find treasure.

5.0 out of 5 stars Engaging story, relatable characters March 27, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
With the distractions of everyday life, television and the Internet, it takes a lot of keep me engaged in a book from cover to cover. Right from the beginning, this book drew me in -- what's not to love about tales of pirates and treasure? Skip to modern day and the adventure of Will Grainger and his new-found friends Mikey, Susan, and Evelyn, the story quickly captured my imagination with well-timed character development, the right amount of details at the right time, with a touch of history, mystery, and suspense. The characters are so interesting and likable, it was easy to relate to their back stories, their unique talents, and their quest for adventure. Ever mystery needs a villain to despise and this story is no exception. Although targeted to the 8-12 age range, the Hunt for the Well Hidden Treasure is an engaging read which I have recommended to friends and family with kids interested in adventure stories. I am eager to know what adventures are in store for the Knightsbridge Internet Detective Society. Enjoy!

5.0 out of 5 stars Read this book! March 24, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition
I really liked this book, and I'm looking forward to reading this with my daughter when she hits the 8-12 age bracket. The characters are believable, likable, smart. The story is both interesting AND interestingly told, moving along at a perfectly suspenseful clip. I like the way the authors interwove historical events with believable fictional ones -- with appropriate attention to details. I found myself wanting to live, or at least visit, discover, poke around, and hunt for treasure, in Knightsbridge. The story is cleverly written, there's some nice word choice that will inspire readers to bring their vocabulary up, and yet it's not too up so as to distract the reader. All told, I think this is an excellent first book. I really hope to see more Sheard/Taylor work in the near future.
