I have now read the entire book and was pleasantly surprised! It is not perfect. It did take a little patience to get through the beginning, since the first character scenario seemed quite far-fetched. But, most books do take a while to develop, so I stuck with it. Glad I did! It gives more visual and real images of how to accomplish all of the things that are part of the Fly Lady system and illustrates why and how they work. While I understand the ideas, I don't always know how to apply them to my life or where to begin. When I look at the mess around me, it is all just so overwhelming! The fictional characters in this book are in the same situation, and they also struggle to apply the methods suggested in the book because they have trouble believing that such small things can really make a difference. But, being desperate, they finally agree to give it a try, even if just to prove it WON'T work!
For me, believing that the simplicity of the Fly Lady system could really work for my situation was a great Leap of Faith.Read more ›
Often when we lose hope and think this is the end, GOD smiles from above and says, "Relax, sweetheart, it's just a bend, not the end!
As a novel, it's okay. I usually enjoy books with dual plot lines and narrators, but for most of this novel I felt the two main characters were virtually the same person with the same situation. This made the dual plot line seem unnecessary and repetitive, and it made it really hard for me to care about the character who is reading the diary. (Britney? Courtney? I don't even remember her name.) For most of the book I felt that the diary on its own would make a better book. I found the gossipy neighbor to be an unbelievable and outdated cliche, and while I liked Susan and would like to believe that there are people out there who, upon running into an acquaintance, will drop everything to become that person's mentor and instant best friend, I've never encountered one in real life.Read more ›
