blown away,

What an amazing CD. It is a great tribute to one of the most important recording labels in modern music history, King Records. The songs, all of which come from the original King catalog, are great. Some are familiar, others less so. The musicianship is great and the arrangements are great. Peter Frampton and Bootsie Collins each do remarkably different versions of Hideaway. The version of Fever done by Over the Rhine is the most sensual version ever recorded! And, the jazz/funk version of James Brown's Cold Sweat as well as the punkish version of the Twist, are fresh to hear. Great creativity! The variety of music is great. It's great to hear a compilation that is not formulaic and not overly produced. This CD is true to its purpose...to present great music and to carry a message of how greatness emerges from diversity. I'd recommend it to anyone.

Aptly titled...,

Any blues or R&B aficianado should own this collection! All the performances are stellar, and why isn't that cover of "Good Rockin' Tonight" with Sweet Alice Hoskins, Dallas Moore, and the virtuoso guitarist Chuck Morpurgo on every IPOD in America? Truly as grinding as "Sweet Home Chicago."
