Right on Target!,
By A Customer
This review is from: The Hidden Truth of Your Name: A Complete Guide to First Names and What They Say About the Real You (Paperback)
I had debated getting this book for so long, but I had a little extra cash in my pocket and decided what the heck. It is so right on target with so many people I know! I don't understand the people who say that they don't know how the book arrived at its information or that they didn't see thier name. In the first part of the book (that would be the part before the definitions of the names!) they explain why they used kabbalah, runes, and numerology and how you can use these tools to decode other names not included in the book. There are charts and worksheets to help you out. Great fun reading!

Intriguing and Accurate, Couldn't put it down!,

My first surprise was that my name, with my spelling, showed in this book! That was a first for me. The next surprise was how accurate it was! Not just for me, but for just about everyone who I showed it to. Very interesting reading and lots of fun with a group of people. I was also interested to see how direct negative statements were avoided and what a positive tone was maintained. A great read. Also interesting for parents about to pick baby names.

Most of us can probably relate to having the same experience with people of the same name - for example maybe every Kelly you've met has been very kind. Names have their own associated energy and are part of why we have certain personalities. This book does an excellent job of explaining why names have these characteristics.
The book also goes into a number of historical ways names are interpreted and gives tools to help interpret names in general. The book does not list every name, it would be impossible, but the foundation it provides is excellent. The descriptions of the names included in the book seem pretty insightful and there are a fair number of names in there. I was really impressed with the explanation of how names have meaning but I like to know how things work. If you just want a huge list of names with no background on why names have meaning then other books may be better. I highly recommend this book for those interested in the topic. It's much better than "The Secret Meaning of Names", which I found incredibly disappointing and ended up returning.

This is one of the best books to have around to stimulate conversation - everybody wants to know what their name means! The historical origins are especially interesting, and having three interpretations (Kaballah, Runes and Numerology) is just as fascinating, since they offer DIFFERENT insights. The interpretations often complement and confirm each other, but other aspects that might not be obvious in one form show up in another, giving a very well-rounded view of each name. Not satisfied with just that? Here's a fun tip: Look up your MIDDLE name too - the two combined give an even more accurate picture! This would have been much better if the book also included a basic guide for determining the signifigance of names that weren't included, since there are so many others out there. Still, you'll find yourself looking up friends, relatives, even old boy/girl-friends and chums from school to see if what you remember about them matches! A great book!

Extremely Accurate,

This review is from: The Hidden Truth of Your Name: A Complete Guide to First Names and What They Say About the Real You (Paperback)
I love this book. It was given to me by a friend because I do numerology & nomenology readings professionally. Amazing how accurate it is. Gives lots of info besides the meaning of names, such as what colors are good for you & why. The kinds of herbals & plants you need around you for your best potential. As well as stones & jewels to wear & the kind of energy they impart. Well worth reading & keeping on hand. I even use it when I hire someone or make an appointment with anyone, such as a doctor, hairstylist etc, to see if they are compatible for me.

Great gift idea - inside and out!,

I have had this book for many years now, and it is frayed and ripped for all of my friends/co-workers/family making copies for themselves. For Christmas one year I framed each of the names on pretty stationary paper and gave it as gifts to my friends. Last year I made some for a few co-worker's baby rooms. I love the definitions and everyone I have spoke to says it fits them to a T! I do wish they would extend it and bring it back with a revised version with more updated names as well, but it is pretty easy to do the interpretations step-by-step in the book.

Fun Stuff,
This review is from: The Hidden Truth of Your Name: A Complete Guide to First Names and What They Say About the Real You (Paperback)
I'm sure the profiles listed in this book wouldn't be true for everyone, but my profile was very true. I wondered while reading the book whether my life was the way it was because of my name or whether I was named what I was because of fate. In any case, the book was FUN! "Take what you like, and leave the rest."

This was the most insightful book on a persons name.,

This review is from: The Hidden Truth of Your Name: A Complete Guide to First Names and What They Say About the Real You (Paperback)
This book was very interesting and hard to put down. It describes the hidden power of your first name as determined by the wisdom of the Kabbalah, the Runes, and Numerology. The first thing you will do is turn to the profile of your name. After researching your name, then you'll want to see the profiles of your family and friends names.Kabbalah is the mystical philosophy of the Jewish religion that traces it origins to biblical times. According to kabbalists, an analysis of your name based on the numerical values of the letters composing that name will yield significant insight into your personality and deeper spiritual traits. The Runic translation uses the Elder Futhark or Germanic Futhark alphabet. Once translated, they general patterns in the translation are used to determine any strong influences or general patterns of the person's life. The Runic translation also is closely associated to the elements of earth, air, fire, and water. The science of numerology reduces the letters of the name into a single-digit number. Once reduced to a single-digit, you can begin working with the meanings of the numbers to arrive at a character analysis of the name. The meaning of the name uses the whole-name value, the vowel value, the consonant value, and the first-letter value. Using these three methods to determine the meaning of a name is very insightful to the person that this name belongs to. There are very specific points that are amazingly correct. If the name is not one of the many contained in the book, then they also let you know how to determine the correct translation to get the meaning of the name.

This review is from: The Hidden Truth of Your Name: A Complete Guide to First Names and What They Say About the Real You (Paperback)
I found this book to be interesting and informative. I especially liked having three sources (Kabbalistic, Runic and Numerological) of interpretation for each name. I thought the list of names was extensive and every name I looked up was in the book. I also liked the colors, gemstones and botanicals outlined that were associated with each name. I'm glad I bought the book as I find it a good reference source.

Somewhat disappointing,

This review is from: The Hidden Truth of Your Name: A Complete Guide to First Names and What They Say About the Real You (Paperback)
(If possible, I would actually give this book 2.5 stars). When I first heard of it I have to say I was skeptical...but then I read the other reviews (which are all very good!) & decided to give it a a try. The plusses: it is a very attractive book & certainly is fun...and now & again it seems to be somewhat accurate when describing people I know. However, on the whole I think it has about as much veracity as horoscopes & my only mistake was in thinking it might offer *more.* If you just want to have some fun, by all means buy this book. Or if you want some extra/different insight when choosing baby names, buy this book. But don't expect too much of it! |
