5.0 out of 5 stars Sanity in an insane health care system!
Once again Shane Ellison shatters common myths and misconceptions about what the late Robert Mendelsohn M.D. called the "religion of modern medicine". Hypercholesterolemia and its treatment with statin drugs could wind up making the lies exposed in the Vioxx and Cox2 inhibitor scandal look insignificant with the number of lives it will affect and ruin. Written in clear,...

2.0 out of 5 stars Dreadfully poor self-publishing, but still of value
This book(let), obviously and badly self-published, is desperately in need of editing, decent formatting, and an overhaul of citation style. It would also benefit from removal of the sketchier flights of fancy toward the end (why did he veer off into such irrelevancies as a denunciation of pasteurized milk?!).

That said, it still provides some value in laying...

Written in clear, simple everyday language even the most remedial reader can get the message; "open your eyes and act, before its too late". You and your loved ones lives may depend on it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Statin Drugs have downfalls, August 26, 2006
This review is from: Hidden Truth about Cholesterol-Lowering Drugs (Paperback)
This is an excellent small book that tells the truth about statin drugs.Having over 15 years use and experience with statins I would like to offer this advice to anyone who is currently on statins.
If you have high cholesterol and serious angina or are waiting for or have just had a by-pass and DO NOT TAKE 3000-5000MG of vitamin C per day then there may be some short term benefit in taking statins.
On the other hand if you have no angina and are in reasonably good health but have so called "high cholesterol" then before you even consider taking these cancer causing drugs you should research Vitamin C and heart disease and start taking 3000mg - 5000mg/day.
Now back to the book!!!!!
This book gives you excellent advice with scientific backing that you can use if you are prepared to take charge of your own health. If you prefer to just go to a doctor and get a prescription and not bother to learn about why you are reading this in the first place then dont buy the book.
Good health.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wake up, get your health back!, November 7, 2006
This review is from: Hidden Truth about Cholesterol-Lowering Drugs (Paperback)
Pharmaceutical companies are profiting by shortening the lifespan of American's. We are the proverbial lamb being led to the slaughterhouse. Shane's books provide research laden proof that we are being bamboozled into believing we are a healthy nation living longer, healthier lives by consuming mass quantities of prescription drugs. Conversation of the over 50 crowd is about their disease rather than their health. Very sad! Shane's book can change this by exposing the truth behind the cholesterol myth and the ulterior motives of "BIG PHARMA". A must read if you want to live a long healthy life. It's easier than you might think! Thank You Shane!

4.0 out of 5 stars Telling the truth is treason in the empire of lies, February 16, 2008

This review is from: Hidden Truth about Cholesterol-Lowering Drugs (Paperback)
Statins are toxic and unsafe at "effective" doses. Once the truth comes out, the pharmaceutical industry will collapse and will likely take us M.D.'s down with them. Can't say we don't have it coming, though.

In practical terms, it is difficult to get the word out. The propaganda on statins is pervasive, and any time you tell a patient the truth, they look at you like you just told them the earth was flat. The other docs in the community may start thinking you're a crackpot as well, and perhaps stop referring patients your way.

Cholesterol is a great moneymaker for primary docs. Periodically, patients come in to get checked, get a prescription for Lipitor, and from then on every 3-6 months will require LFT's to check liver and recheck cholesterol. Between then, the patients will come in to be evaluated for side effects (GERD, memory loss, myalgia, etc). Anyway, good book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Useful information not readily avilable elsewhere., November 8, 2007
This review is from: Hidden Truth about Cholesterol-Lowering Drugs (Paperback)
I am interessted in both standard and alternative medical treatments. My doctor has prescribed Lipitor for me to control my cholesterol. Shane Ellison is an experienced pharmaceutical chemist who has broken ranks with the "standard march to the drumbeat" group to share his knowlege of helpful alternatives which he feels will work just as well, if not often better, than standard prescription products. In so doing, he feels there is also greater savings and less chance of experiencing dangerous side effects. The reader is then left to weigh the information, share concerns with their health care professional and move forward from there, armed with additional information enabling one to make more confident decisions. Definitely a highly interesting read!

5.0 out of 5 stars The BEST book on cholesterol out there!, November 26, 2008
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Hidden Truth about Cholesterol-Lowering Drugs (Paperback)
Amazing information in this small book...lots of facts and research...drugs ARE big business...every where you turn, there are ads for drugs...especially now for lowering your cholesterol. This book gives you the facts of why cholesterol is not the culprit it is made out to be. I agree with what he says. I knew several people with low cholesterol who had heart attacks...my cholesterol is very high...325+...and I feel great...I have plenty of energy, my weight is down, and I exercise by walking and playing with my new bought puppy, JoJo. Don't get caught up with all those drug commercials...do research and buy books like this to help you understand why doctors recommend drugs...doctors are NOT gods to believe everything they tell you to do and take. Exercise, eat low fat foods, laugh, and develop a positive attitude and these things will help with many health problems. Be informed before you take drugs...they ALL seem to have negative side effects...Take care of your body and it will take care of you.

I purchased this book not knowing much more than about the title. Book arrived in timely manner. Content of book was wonderful and informative. Combined with two other books I purchased of similar material, this book helped me understand the truth regarding statins in a way I certainly had not before.

5.0 out of 5 stars Be Your Own Health Advocate, August 3, 2009
This review is from: Hidden Truth about Cholesterol-Lowering Drugs (Paperback)
A must read for anyone who is pressured by their physician to take cholesterol lowering drugs, and who feels seduced by the constant barrage of advertizing for them. One has to make up their own mind by reading the documented literature instead.

This book is easy to read, to understand and there are many references and links for further study.

5.0 out of 5 stars Essential to Understand What Effect Statins Really Have on Your Health, August 2, 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Hidden Truth about Cholesterol-Lowering Drugs (Paperback)

Anyone taking, or considering taking, statin drugs of any type need to be aware of the pharmaceutical science (in layman's language) that reveals facts of their physiological effects. There are many degenerative conditions falsely attributed to aging that are proven to accompany statin drug use. The author was a pharmacist and he gives statistics, names/dates of studies, inside information of how the drug industry initiated and pursues the creation, prescribing and selling of these drugs. The doubter need only read the details on these topics within the pages. Of minor note, the author is not a professional writer; some passages are written in a vernacular, conversational style which does not however, detract from the seriousness of the subject.
