Truly Amazing...,
A Kid's Review
This review is from: The Hidden World (Paperback)
The Hidden world and The Wolves of Woden were FANTASTIC. Next to Orson Scott Card's Adult Sci-Fi Ender Wiggin series, those two were the best books I've ever read. What I find interesting is that she didn't just make Annwn up. I was surfing the net for celtic stuff (I'm in love with Celtic culture) and I leared that they really did believe in the Other World, the land of the Fairies, Annwn. Most people probably already know that but I found that really interesting! I also like how she weaved the tales of King Aurther with the Holy Grail and The Isle of Avolon and all that into the story. It's a very moving story to me. I fell IN LOVE with both stories and I REALLY hope Alison Baird wrights another sequel to the book. I would rate this 1,000,000,000,000,000.......(you get the point) stars. I've been trying to find Alison Baird's address or e-mail address, but no such luck so far. I also thoughtit was really cool that she lives in Oakville since thats were I live aswell. Any way I would TOTALLY COMPLETLY recomend this book. Loved it!

Narnia, meet Newfoundland!,

This review is from: The Hidden World (Paperback)
Every so often, and not often enough, you read a book and know it was something truly special. Hidden World is such a book. Strongly written, with characters so real they'll haunt you, and descriptions that whisk you to marvelous lands both imagined and real, this book immediately made me feel as though I'd been the first person to discover Narnia. Don't be fooled by the Y/A location in some stores. This book is accessible to teen readers, but a sophisticated older reader of fantasy will thoroughly enjoy it. There is an amazing depth and detail to Hidden World. It could have easily been twice as long, but Baird's crisp, clear writing whirls readers into her magical realms without a wasted word or moment. If you want to be part of something wonderful in fantasy, if you want say you were one of the first to find the next "must-read" in the genre, try Hidden World.

Celtic Mythology Lovers GOTTA READ,
By Arora (Canada) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Hidden World (Paperback)
I loved this book! I am especialy interested in the Celtic Mythology-seeing as I am Celtic meself-and the way it was writen as well was just...too great for words to say. Maeve is a charactor very much like meself, so I could relate to her easily, and I think a lot of young girls could! I recomend this book to people of all ages, but especially teen girls. It would be a good idea to write a second, or maybe even third book to this one. The ending keeps you hanging, but writing her going back and something happening, and then her daughter going there or something would make it a AMAZING serise. Keep up the good work Alison!-Arora Maeve-Faye **Last name I will not let out** (As you can see my name is VERY much the same as hers, so twas a nice surprise, aye. Yet another reason to like this superbly written book)

The hidden World,

This review is from: The Hidden World (Paperback)
Hi, I first read this book two years ago when I was 12 and loved it then. When I read it again, I found that I still loved it. This is book that I highly recommend. It is an exiting and well written book that introduces the reader to celtic lore through the eyes of Maeve O'Conner. If you enjoy this book as much as I have then I recomend it's prequel, THE WOLVES OF WODEN, wich is an exiting an well written book as well that tells the story of Maeve's grandmother Jean's adventure into celtic lore during world war 2. I personaly prefer THE HIDDEN WORLD. I hope that this review was helpful.Vero

This is one of the best books I've read in a long time. The way Baird seamlessly integrates present-day Newfoundland with Avalon is simply stunning. The prose flows along wonderfully, and the story is great. I definitely recommend this book!
