This review is from: The Hidden World (Paperback)
I did enjoy this book throughly, but I believe that it is definately geared towards young adults. I had a hard time getting into the book and sometimes even found myself not wanting to pick it back up to finish the story. But rarely do i ever just put a book down and leave the story unfinished, so I gave this book a chance. Finally, around the 8th or 9th chapter, the story became very interesting. At the beginning, the story sort of explains the folklore behind the Celts and their Mythology. It is good for those who have an interest in the Celts and also for those who know nothing about it. I know very much about the Mythology, so I kind of plunkered through the two or so chapters that contained background information. The adventure part of the tale is where it all gets interesting and when you don't want to put the story down. The ending was very sweet although just a few ends remained loose, which is why one of my fellow reviewers commented on how nice it would be to have a continuation of this story.
My critique may seem harsh, but after I got into the book, I really did not want to put it down. I have read many a novel in my lifetime, and I find Alison Baird's writing style to be unique. It took me a while to get used to (since the book is intended for a younger audience maybe) But many people love her style and the flare of her pen. And as I stated earlier, if there was a sequel written, I wouldn't hesitate to pick it up and read it through. |
