4.0 out of 5 stars Good album, don't listen to these fools
This Album is very good. Jon Bunch is an excellent singer, and FSF shows alot of musical progression on this album. The reason this album gets alot of mixed reviews is beacuse of the singing. The singing is excellent, don't believe anything other than that. See, Jon is new, and thats why the rating is all over the place. People who have liked FSF for a long time have seen...

3.0 out of 5 stars well...a dissapointment with some redeeming moments
Well...over all this CD starts off strong, but then gets boring after about the first four songs. To be honest i really wished I liked this CD more because the first 2 were brilliant. One thing that stands out is that their new vocalist does not have the same...power in his voice that Jason Gleason or Chris Carrabba had.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good album, don't listen to these fools, September 2, 2004
This review is from: Hide Nothing (Audio CD)
This Album is very good. Jon Bunch is an excellent singer, and FSF shows alot of musical progression on this album. The reason this album gets alot of mixed reviews is beacuse of the singing. The singing is excellent, don't believe anything other than that. See, Jon is new, and thats why the rating is all over the place. People who have liked FSF for a long time have seen Chris Carraba and Jason Gleason come and go, and now Jon is either "no Jason" or "no Chris". Jon is competing against the FSF fans stuck in a rut about how either Chris or Jason was better, so they don't approach the album with an open mind. Personally, based on my music tastes, Jason's singing in How To Start A Fire is amazing, and that album remains in my top 5 best CD's list. Ironically, the only thing of Carraba i ever liked was The Moon Is Down with FSF, which is a good album too, but not as good as HTSAF with Jason. thats my opinion. People who reviewed this CD said Jason was boring. I assure you he is not, but i guess its all a matter of an opinion.

Like i said above, i listened to the album once, said "hes no Jason" and dismissed it at first, but after i approached it with an open mind, i really enjoyed the album. if you listen to it constantly saying "Jason could have done it better" or "chris could have done it better", you will not like it at all. You have to take it the way it is, and once you figure it out, it really is a beautiful album.

every FSF album has a different sound to it, as its changed for every singer. The new sound is beautiful, and stand out tracks for me include Make It a Part, All Rise, Already Gone, Call on The life, and an absalutely beautiful little balled called For All We Know

a very good album for me, but like i said, its got nothing on HTSAF in my opinion.

regardless, its beautiful, and its worth checking out. on a side note, those who don't have them might want to pick up How To Start A Fire and The Moon Is Down as well, to see how the sound has progressed over the years. all FSF albums are excellent.

5.0 out of 5 stars Just Listen, October 9, 2004

I hope it doesn't scare you away to know that a forty-two year old man loves this latest cd by FTF. My kids and I caught them on their latest tour, and we all loved their show. There aren't many bands we can all appreciate, so I am thankful when one comes along. I didn't just come to my appreciation lately, though. I have all of their cd's, and, to take nothing away from their previous lead singers, I am very pleased with the addition of Jon Bunch. For me FTF is like an all-star band now. I loved Jon's previous band, Sensefield, and he and the rest of the FTF crew make a great team.
What I love about this cd is it's passion, positivity and hope. It reminds me, in spirit if not in sound, of some of the great anthemic records of U2.
On a personal note: I bought this cd just before my grandmother who suffered from Alheimer's went to her death bed. As I was driving in to see her when she took ill, I was listening to Hide Nothing. On the way I heard the song Make It A Part. There is a line in that song that says, "Love is coming, Love won't let you die alone." It spoke to me, and even though my grandmother hadn't been able to recognize me for a long time, and to all appearances was unaware of my presence at her bedside, I sat vigil with her for two nights and days until she passed. Love had to be there in that room.
Good art makes us better. This is great music in every sense of the word. If you can set your affections for the former lead singers aside for a moment and just listen to the music, I think you will agree.

5.0 out of 5 stars Phenomenal, August 31, 2004
This review is from: Hide Nothing (Audio CD)
The moon is down is probably my favourite album ever, and even though how to start a fire was abit of a dissapointment, FSF pick it up again and make an amazing comeback with Hide Nothing. Drumming is phenomenal as always, inspiring, unpredictable, original, probably one of the best drummers out there. guitars produce amazing melodies, great cooperation between all instruments and the voice ties it up all together to produce fantastic sounds. A definite must have, for musicians and music lovers alike.

5.0 out of 5 stars What is wrong with you people?!, February 24, 2006
This review is from: Hide Nothing (Audio CD)
This cd is amazing and worth every penny. This IS the best further seems forever cd to date. The other singers were so whiny and i couldn't stand listenig to either of the other cd's. This vocalist has such a mesmerizing voice. If you like emotional music without the emoness and some of the most indvidual guitar riffs to date then pick up this cd. if you like cliche emo then by all means get one of the other two.

4.0 out of 5 stars Solid effort, December 29, 2005
This review is from: Hide Nothing (Audio CD)
First off I should say that this is my first FSF record, so I'm not going to judge it by the past two vocalists or anything like that. I think Jon Bunch holds his own, personally, and in places he truly shines.

The sound:

Hide Nothing is an album that is very unique as a record; the only things that hold it down is that it doesn't retain a uniqueness on a song to song basis, and is over too soon. After awhile you start to feel like you're listening to a never ending song. The fortunate thing is that it's a really good song! Jon Bunch's vocals are amazing in places, boring in others... the guitar work is good, but sometimes it blends in a little to much with the rest of the music. The drumming is full of off-beats and you can tell the drummer likes his double-bass pedal. The bass is good in parts, but isn't impressive. For the most part each song features long choruses; to me it felt like nearly every element of each song sounded like a chorus. It's pretty cool, but they do it on nearly every track. Gives it a very epic feel.

The Production:

The production quality seems to me to be extremely inconsistent. On some songs they seem marginally under-produced (the instruments blend together a little too much at times). But on most tracks they're over-done (the end of some songs makes them sound like they're about to totally rock out, but they always get cut off)... also, tracks five and six are essentially one song cut in half. They would make a great song as a whole, but it feels weird for them to be cut apart like that. Evidently Tooth and Nail evoked its 10 song minimum for LP's.

The Songs:

1. Light Up Ahead 9/10-the first song, not quite one a favorite yet for me. Long chorus, the guitars kind of get drowned out.

2. Hide Nothing 10/10-very similar to the first song, but I love the chorus.

3. Already Gone 6/10-while I like the atmosphere, Bunch's endless repetition of "already gone, aren't you?" gets a bit redundant. The rest of the band does the same thing. Sounds like filler.

4. Someone You Know 10/10-my personal favorite. A very multi-layered track that best shows off Bunch's vocals.

5. Make it a Part 10/10-showcases the most emotion of any track on the disc. It's a very epic rocker where every member of the band shines. The only downside is it's cut off at about 2:40.

6. All Rise 10/10-essentially the ending to the above song, it features the same chorus and same emotion. It also cuts off at about 3:00, and I as I already mentioned I wish that they'd left the two together.

7. Call on the Life 6/10-I thought this was kind of a mishmash of what has already been heard.

8. Lead the Way 9/10-not particularly groundbreaking, but the bridge is awesome.

9. Bleed 9/10-another one of the best songs, the hammering stutter guitar riff at the start is awesome. I just wished they would've used more of it.

10. For All We Know 8/10-a little uncharacteristic of the rest of the album, it doesn't feature the same epic feeling. However, it does feature the odd-eerie feel to it that most of the album has, except with acoustic guitar and piano. It does make you wish they'd used piano a little more.

Verdict:

With 87/100 for my personal rating, I think that this album is a very solid release that if the band can retain Bunch for another album (contrary to their past) that they can build on for an even better effort next time. I'd call it epic alt rock but that's just my opinion. The epic feeling and long choruses along with the building feeling that most of their songs possesses really sets them aside from the rest of the crowd, and makes it hard to pin them down to any one genre. One does wish they'd made it a bit longer, as it clocks out at just under 30 minutes. This will probably be one of those "mood" CD's for me; don't hesitate to give it a chance if you like rock with an odd twist.

**This CD has really grown on me the longer I've had it, so I raised the scores. Wonderful music. :-)

4.0 out of 5 stars Solid, very solid, December 18, 2004
By
This review is from: Hide Nothing (Audio CD)
All I can say is 'Hide Nothing' is a good, solid album. Musically, these guys are extremely talented--their change-ups and breaks are very distinctive. The music itself holds its own. I've read some reviews stating that the lyrics are weak. Well, I don't listen to music to ponder the meanig or significance of a song. The lyrics are simple or should I say straight foward. I'm not really sure why they changed lead vocalist again--I know why Carraba left--but the new lead is different from the previous, but good as well. I do reccomend the album, but it needs to be understood that as you make line-up changes, the sound of the band may change as well. In this case---it worked out.

I have loved Further Seems Forever for a long time, and I must say, this album is my favorite. Like many have said, they have had a different vocalist on each album, however I believe this one is the best. The lyrics are more emotional, the vocals more spiritual, it is AMAZING. People are saying that ohh "Jason could have sang it better", I say that isn't so. This is the BEST FSF album. And I believe there is more to come. Pick up this cd, you will not be disappointed!!

5.0 out of 5 stars beautiful, September 25, 2004
This review is from: Hide Nothing (Audio CD)
While slightly lacking the technicality of their previous 2 albums, I believe this record is a HUGE step forward. The album is much more cohesive than their previous records, while at the same time displaying a diversity and listenablity that their previous albums lacked.

Again, the technical side is only slightly toned down, which I feel gives the songs more of a driving feel. The drums still rock with intricate beats and fills, they just don't throw you off as much as they used too. The chord/picking melodies are stronger than ever and give the songs a greater emotional feel.

Vocally I feel Jon Rocks!!! He is such a better fit for this band. His voice is more unique and more mature than the squeaky high pitched (read "trendy") pop/punk weenies they used to have. True he doesn't scream but since when did screaming become the only means of expressing? Perhaps the band is trying to distance themselves from the recent mass of cloned 'screamo' bands. The vocal melodies fit the songs well and really do a great job of highliting and blending with the guitar work. Several songs call to mind images of The Fire Theft.

I consider this BY FAR FSF's best work and one of the better albums of this year!!

& I truly love the first two albums. Still that classic Further sound but now with vocals by somebody with a little more experience. The new singer's voice sounds great (even live) and the lyrics are so inspiring & positive. This is Further reaching their full potential, being the band they always wanted to be. 3 extra acoustic songs if you get it at best buy.
