BC Camplight is Burt Bacharach, Randy Newman, Brian Wilson, and Badly Drawn Boy rolled into one delicious songwriter. Beautiful melodies, eccentric and unique production. This one should help eventually launch BC into the upper stratos of indie pop.

Since I can't write a better review than what's already been written, I'll just say that I agree with what everyone else has said so far. Besides "Couldn't You Tell", other standout tracks are "Blood and Peanut Butter", "Parapaleejo", "Richard Dawson"...yeah, a lot of em. Pop! Timeless! Catchy! Sweet! Weird lyrics! Not annoying!

I wanted to add that if you can see him live, DO IT. He's a great performer and funny as well. The one time I've been able to see him so far, he sang beautifully and was in good spirits despite being sick.

This is a good disk. In fact very good. However it's a bit frustrating because there are flashes of absolute and utter brilliance....Then there are parts that are a bit forgettable.

In a just world "couldn't you tell" would be a top 10 hit on the radio. "Emily's dead to me" is quite delicate and beautiful. "Hide, run away" is also very good. This guy definately has a knack for creating hooks and emotional tension in his songs.

When I first got this album into my office I was expecting a much different sound. As I played it I realized that this was no ordinary debut record. This is a timeless collection of intelligent pop songs presented in an unpretentious and honest manner. Tracks like "Blood and Peanut Butter" and "Couldn't You Tell" are packed with pop perection while "Emily's Dead To Me" and "Wouldn't Mind The Sunshine" explore a more subtle, soothing tone. BC Camplight have somehow managed to turn their influences (Burt Bacharach, Todd Rundgren, Ben Folds, Brian Wilson) into a unique and inspiring sound tour de force. This record has the potential to set a new standard in indie-pop and maybe, just maybe, other bands will stop looking at themselves in the mirror long enough to give this band some songwriting competition.

BC Camplight didn't make a perfect record but his debut "hide, run away" clearly marks the arrival of a true talent. His writing style, which has been compared to Burt Bacharach and Randy Newman, along with his macabre lyrics and humorously modest approach are a winning combination. Check out this cd if you are a fan of Todd Rundgren, Brian wilson, Randy Newman, Burt Bacharach, and Belle and Sebastian.

As another reviewer noted, the first tune, "Couldn't You Tell" is a fantastic pop song, I listen to it every day. These guys remind of the excellent group Tan Sleeve. Some Wondermints and Beach Boys reference also. The song "Emily's Dead to Me" is kind of like "Stacy's Mom" by FOW, great sick lyrics and wonderful melody. This is a keeper. And if you like melodic pop, don't miss out on Bill Ricchini's new "Tonight I Burn" which also features Brian Christinzio (b.c. Camplight).

This album is sure to set a new standard in indie music. Much like it's dualistic composer, one Brian Christinzio, it's complex yet simple, soothing yet exciting, beautiful yet creepy, but altogether unpretentious and perfectly constructed. "La La La" is one of the loveliest songs I have ever heard while "Blood and Peanut Butter" is irresistibly dance-worthy. Every song has a unique character and an infectious melody. Thank you, BC Camplight, for reigniting my passion for exploring new and interesting music!!!!!

Sometimes you buy an album for That One Song and hope to that That Song and a few others that are as good as That Song. Sometimes you only get That Song. I only got That Song. Not bad music, just not represented as a whole well by That One Song. If more of the songs were uptempo I'd probably listen to this album and not rest cold drinks on it.
