This was more creepy (and poorly written) than romantic,
This review is from: Hide and Seek (Mass Market Paperback)
So she and Max have not seen each other in 10 or so years (since college when he was careless and got her minorly injured in a chem lab accident because he was hitting on another girl) and when he finds out -- out of the blue -- that she is in a sex video with two men, he immediately wants her back in his life. So determined is he, that he tracks her down to a remote cabin in CO, snowshoes quite a ways to the cabin, and proceeds to watch through a window as she masturbates WITH A GIANT TUB OF TOYS next to her. After he worms his way inside after seeing nothing wrong with watching and getting caught mid-stroke, he repeatedly offers to be her sex slave and on more than one occasion, expose himself through the shorty robe he is wearing. Also, the sex logistics are horrible. It's repeatedly stated how "large" he is and yet they are easily able to have anal sex with no prep, no lube, and him sliding all the way in in one go. The whole thing was absurd and very laughable. I'd give it negative stars if I could...The premise is creepy, he is a peeping tom/stalker, she is abrasive and rude throughout (that is understandable, but I could not like her as a character). All around, a horrible attempt at writing that should have been stopped at several points along the way of being published.

Bor-bor-boring!,

This review is from: Hide and Seek (Mass Market Paperback)
Once again, another bor-bor-boring romance novel trying to pretend at erotica. Soooooo, predictable, it put me to sleep within minutes. If you want to read a hyped-up romance novel, great, go for it. If you want erotica, don't waste your money or time.

When I purchased this book I knew that it was erotica, but I didn't realize the amount of sex that was in the book. Alyssa Brooks manages to insert a plot among all the sex scenes and you get your money's worth.

Maxim has never forgotten the `one that got away'. It matters little that it was he himself who blew his one shot with Elisa back in college. When he sees her picture on the cover of the tabloids smack dab in the middle of a torrid sexual exploit, he can't quite reconcile the quiet little Elisa he knew then with the sensual woman she has become. Intrigued, he is determined to find her and persuade her to give him another chance.
Betrayed by a lover and hounded by scandal mongers, Elisa goes into hiding to nurse her wounds in a remote cabin in Colorado. She vows to never again trust another member of the lying, no-good, sneaky male gender. But all her well-laid plans go awry when the devilishly sexy and very unforgettable Maxim shows up on her doorstep, ill-dressed for the Colorado snow and freezing his butt off just to see her again. Elisa decides to give him a chance - but only on her terms, and she isn't exactly planning to play fair... Let the games begin! Alyssa Brooks delivers a very sexy romantic romp in her new book, Hide and Seek! From start to finish, the heat is on as her lead characters play a passionate game that both will ultimately win at, although t certainly feels to each of them along the way that they are losing... Neither Maxim nor Elisa believe in love, trust, and commitment when the story begins, but before it is all over, they learn that each of them has the capacity for a love greater than they ever expected to experience in their lives. At times, Elisa comes across as a bit hard and somewhat callous, until one remembers that she is still reeling from quite the sucker punch in her last relationship - one that has cost her almost everything. Knowing this, it is easier to understand why she treats Maxim as badly as she does, especially considering their past together. Maxim is a dream come true, treating Elisa with consideration and patience every step of the way, even before he realizes he wants more from her than a temporary fling. Although his mind is convinced that he doesn't want a relationship, his every action shows what his heart really wants, and that is definitely Elisa. I enjoyed my first read from Alyssa Brooks, and will recommend this to everyone who enjoys very steamy contemporary romances!
