Book Description

HIDE AND SEEK is the 2nd in the Mac Jackson mystery/thriller series, and can be read as a stand alone. These novels are NOT meant for children. They include adult themes, some violence and strong language, and probe into the dark, twisted corners of a killer's mind. Here are reviewers comments about the first novel in the Mac Jackson series, MADNESS AND MURDER:

4 stars: "Madness and Murder is a taut crime mystery, with a terrific underlying narrative of character interaction and a theme of second chances. There is a splendid interweaving of subplots, overlaid with a chilling murder spree." ~ A.F. Stewart.

5 stars: A puzzle solvers dream: "Hilborne does a masterful job of getting her readers connected with the emotions of her main characters, which adds a nice counterbalance to the cognitive aspects of puzzle solving. The action is suspenseful, and the backstory of key players is parsed in need-to-know doses that continually propel the plot forward." ~ R.J. McDonnell

5 stars: Great Murder Mystery: "I would really recommend this book if you like Murder Mysteries that are slightly different and not your usual run of the mill. Can't wait for the next one." ~ Carrie

The book begins:

“You have committed the most heinous of crimes, and you have shown no remorse. The court imposes the maximum sentence the circumstances will allow…life without parole.”

Many readers asked for the return of Homicide Inspector, Mac Jackson. He is back in HIDE AND SEEK and thrust into the middle of another complex mystery:

HIDE AND SEEK: A guest disappears from a private party and blood is discovered on the grounds. Abducted, murdered, or did Abby McCabe fake her own disappearance? San Francisco homicide inspector, Mac Jackson, is called out to investigate.

As Jackson questions the guests, he uncovers old hostilities and learns the details of an unusual death. He centers his investigation on the lingerie bar, where Abby once worked and where the other women are afraid to talk. His best chance at solving the case hinges on an uncooperative source and Jackson must work fast, before his source also disappears.

5.0 out of 5 stars Loved it! May 31, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
This is the second book in the series revolving around Detective Mac Jackson, but can easily be read as a stand-alone. One of the things I love about this series is that Jackson is more of a minor character. We don't get caught up in his ego or personal life, so each story is fresh, with new characters to get to know. Hilborne could write 60 books like this, and a reader could pick up any one of them and immediately connect.

Hide and Seeks' plot is complex, but never confusing. As the story unfolds, little clues are left like breadcrumbs leading us down a path. The characters are well-developed and feel like real people. I was immediately sucked into their world and enjoyed every second of the journey.

5.0 out of 5 stars Gripping suspense novel! July 5, 2012
By LauraC
Format:Paperback
I loved this book and really enjoy Ms. Hilborne's style. I am working backwards now and reading Madness and Murder and it is equally as intriguing! She writes no nonsense stories that keep you engaged and wondering what is going to happen next. The characters in Hide and Seek are interesting and exciting and tied together very well. I thoroughly enjoyed this read!

5.0 out of 5 stars HIDE AND SEEK "THRILLER" March 31, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
This is the 3rd book I have read from this author and they are only get better. Hide and Seek is the 2nd book in the Mac Jackson murder mystery series. This is a great read with many twist and turns that every time I though I had it figured out I was wrong. It is not like the normal "who done it" and you figure it out right away. It is a must read you wont be dissapointed.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Puzzle Solver's Dream September 11, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
I believe that most mystery fans are also into solving puzzles. Be it crossword puzzles, jigsaw puzzles, Sudoku, etc. it's all about building on bits of information until the big picture becomes clear. If you're the type of person who skips the easy puzzles in the front of the book (or 100 piece jigsaw puzzles) in favor of the more challenging ones, you'll love Hide and Seek by Jenny Hilborne.

We learn in the opening that a murder is committed by more than one person and at least one of them is female. The challenge is that all of the suspects are scared, and not interacting with one another. We also learn that more than one crime was committed, and their interrelationship makes life very difficult for San Francisco Police Inspector Mac Jackson.

Hilborne does a masterful job of getting her readers connected with the emotions of her main characters, which adds a nice counterbalance to the cognitive aspects of puzzle solving. The action is suspenseful, and the backstory of key players is parsed in need-to-know doses that continually propel the plot forward.

The puzzle solver in me is very glad there is a Mac Jackson series. It won't be long before I return for another challenge.

5.0 out of 5 stars Hide & Seek September 7, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
I was so fortunate to notice under the Goodreads ebooks giveaway, the new novel, "Hide & Seek" by Jenny Hilborne.I quickly downloaded it.

Jenny Hilborne is an amazing author! She is one of my favourite authors.I enjoy reading mystery suspense thrillers.I have read all of her books, such as Murder & Madness, The Alibi, False Pretense and now Hide & Seek.I couldn't put this book down.I was glued from page one.

Homicide Inspector, Mac Jackson and partner,Red Dennis had been called to Hallam House to investigate the missing person report due to a large amount of blood found on the grounds.A missing shoe belonging to Abby indicated foul play...a pond...but no body. Her purse containing her car keys and phone was found by Ellis on the couch.

The story takes place on Halloween. A group of 31 friends gather at a mansion and decide to play a game. Two days later, the body is discovered. As Jackson questions the guests, he uncovers old hostilities, threat notes, secret pasts, and the victim's ties to another unusual death. At the center of it all is the lingerie bar, where the victim once worked. Are the girls in some sort of danger? Who is the thug with the scar? Jackson must work fast, before it's too late.

This is a real "whodunit" stand alone novel. Jackson must determine who had "motive and opportunity".The reader follows each step of the investigation, trying to also solve the mystery...but so many people had motive.Threat letters signed "H" found in Abby's apartment with the pool table and chess set,her job at the lingerie club, casual relationships and affairs.Abby played hard to get. She liked to play games, and so did her killer.

If you enjoy reading mystery suspense thrillers, don't miss out on this one! You won't be disappointed.
