PreSchool-K. This seasonal book features bright, colorful illustrations and a simple text. Each page has a tab to pull or a flap to lift, revealing some sort of "surprise." Initially, the author concentrates on animals that live in snowy climes such as penguins, polar bears, reindeer, and seals. Eventually, children come into the picture playing on sleds and skis and building igloos and a snowman. This book may seem simplistic to adults. There is no narrative, and it jumps from north pole to south pole without any notice! My six-month old son, however, loves it. He chuckles out loud, repeatedly, at the appearing and disappearing penguins and polar bears. Unfortunately, he also managed to rip off the snowman's arm. I would recommend this book, though I feel it could be sturdier. When your child is older, you can always point to the globe, and show him where those polar bears and penguins actually live.
