Book Description

Eleven year old Sean is in search of the truth. Someone murdered his father, Special Agent Max Gray, and the FBI has officially closed the case. Now it is up to him to find out who was to blame. While investigating online, Sean stumbles upon a mysterious connection between his father and that new girl in his class. Now he has two puzzles to solve. What really happened to his dad and what does Carly have to do with it? In the face of danger, Sean sets aside his fear and finds the courage, compassion, and conviction to "follow the evidence."

Praise and Reviews for Hiding Carly

"Ann Eisenstein’s debut murder-mystery middle grade novel HIDING CARLY received a resoundingly positive review from the Wright State University Press. There is a strong FBI theme in this first book and Eisenstein is now collaborating with the FBI to continue with the SEAN GREY, JUNIOR SPECIAL AGENT series." ~Pen & Palette SCBWI-Carolinas, Summer 2011

"Eisenstein chooses words that evoke the wide span of emotions that run through a sixth grader's mind. She keeps readers in suspense on every page. " ~Joan Y. Edwards, Author, Illustrator, Motivational Speaker

5.0 out of 5 stars Hiding Carly Keeps Readers in Suspense September 21, 2011
Format:Paperback
Hiding Carly by Ann E. Eisenstein

The FBI badge of his deceased Dad meant a lot to Sean. He knew in his heart that his father was framed. His goal was to find out who framed him and how without his Mother's knowledge. He tries to befriend a new girl in his sixth grade class named Carly. The more he finds out about her, the less he knows about her. He accuses her of being in a Witness Protection program because she's so elusive. He believes that if he finds out more about Carly, it'll lead him to clues about his father's death.

I think it is befitting that Eisenstein has Sean's grandmother who has Alzheimer's living with them to add stress for him and his Mother. Many readers will relate to this as they may have aging relatives living with them who need special care.

Eisenstein chooses words that evoke the wide span of emotions that run through a sixth grader's mind. She keeps readers in suspense on every page. Can Sean stop a bully's taunts? Can he save Carly? Will he clear his father's good name? Will he be killed in the process?

Fourth, fifth and sixth graders like my granddaughter, Kirstyn, will love this book. She hated to put the book down.

It is interesting to me that the FBI asked the author, Ann E. Eisenstein, to write a series of books with Sean, Junior Special Agent. It's fascinating to discover that a film producer has asked her to write a screenplay for Hiding Carly.

Check the FBI dot gov site for information about the Junior Special Agent program, a copy of the Junior Special Agent Handbook, and to find an FBI Community Outreach City near you.

Sincerely,

4.0 out of 5 stars Great Read for Middle School Children! January 18, 2014
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Sean is dealing with the death of his dad, a former FBI agent, and when the word on the street is that Sean's dad was dirty, he just couldn't accept that. Not his dad. His dad always played by the rules and "followed the evidence". When Sean sees his dad's former partner at school for the Junior Special Agent Program he is not very forthcoming with answers. Is the information classified, or is something more sinister going on? On top of this, 11 year old Sean has to deal with Andy his classroom nemesis and Carly the new girl who infatuates him. Sean definitely takes after his dad and will stop short of nothing to follow the evidence leading to the truth and the realization that people aren't always what they seem.

As a teacher, I know children in middle school will enjoy this book!

At first look, one would assume the book is about Carly, BUT it's really about Sean Gray, a Junior FBI Special Agent and how he uses his intuition and sleuthing skills to uncover the truth behind the death of his father. Along the way he uncovers a mystery surrounding his new friend, Carly.

Adolescents who enjoy a good mystery will love this book! Don't be mislead by the cover. BOYS will love it too!

Well-written middle school or teen book. It was realistic and entertaining. As well, there were great characters and a storyline with some danger and suspense. The dialogue was great. Recommended for the age group and I look forward to more from this fine author.

This story could happen anywhere in the world today, including right next door to you. It brings home the truth that many children are not safe and are not in their own beds tonight. A look into what can happen when someone, even a child is paying attention.
