Pleasantly Amazed,
This review is from: Hiding Inside the Horrible Weather (Audio CD)
When I purchased this CD, I really wasn't expecting much. Before buying this CD, I had never heard any of their songs, and even moreso, have never even heard of the band. I purchased the CD expecting to hear another Fall Out Boy wannabe band, but I was pleasantly surprised. The Slow, Melodic tunes actually are very cheery and the songs are very well arranged. My favorite would be 'Tired and Uninspired'

I really, really dig this new album from my american heart... although after AP magazine absolutly ripped it in there review i was kinda skeptic, but i bought it anyways cause ive been a fan of the band for some time and i have to say i was pleasanlty surprised to find how good this album is! However i found it is quite a bit slower than the first album, but the blues undertones "which i love" are what does it for me... and you can also tell its the same band, no drastic changing "which is also a good thing"... if you liked the first album then youll like this one as well... its not gonna change the world but its one of those cds that just makes u feel good! go pick it up and youll see for yourself! its well worth the money.

Impressive Effort,

My American Heart is probably one of, if not the most underrated pop punk band of the decade. Their sound is much more raw and standoff-ish than most bands in the genre, such as Fall Out Boy, Panic! At The Disco, New Found Glory or Mest. By no means is this an album that's gonna get ample radio play or sell a million plus, but it's a very solid record and follow-up to 'The Meaning In Makeup', their first LP. I am beside myself that I'm only the third person to review this album and Amazon doesn't have as much as an album cover up for this CD. It's one of the better albums I've purchased in 2007 from a band that should be receiving more media than it has thus far.
'Hiding Inside The Horrible Weather' definitely maintains a slower collective pace than any of their previous work, but it doesn't take away from the quality of writing and innovative guitar work on songs like the lead single, "The Shake (Awful Feeling)", my personal favorite. Other noteworthy tracks: "Boys! Grab Your Guns" "Hiding Inside The Horrible Weather" "The Innocent Letter" "There Are More Frightening Things..." "Moving On" Grade: A-

I enjoyed listening to The Meaning In Makeup; however, I would not begin to consider it a great album by any means. I think My American Heart took a big step with this album. I love the first few songs but then feel a bit of a lull until 'Moving On'. The last track is a nice change of pace to finish the album with a terrific sound and whistle in it. I think if they could manage to make all of the songs on their next album as good as the top songs on this then My American Heart could be capable of a really memorable CD. It's been a while since we've been waiting for that album already, so I hope we don't have too much longer before we get to find out.

I Could Listen All Day Long,
This review is from: Hiding Inside the Horrible Weather (Audio CD)
This album is nothing short of incredible. The band alone is amazing. The lead singer has a very clear and sincere voice and the band actually meshes perfectly with the vocals, which is hard to find these days. Each musician complements the other; their styles are so similar that when they come together on this album they truly create music. My American Heart is very impressive, especially considering their ages, and I can't believe they haven't drawn more attention.
The best part of this CD is the sincerity. When I listen to it, I don't feel like this is a band who is merely trying to make money. These boys mean what they play, and exhibit a maturity far beyond their years. The lyrics are beautiful in many of the songs (I believe you and I are like papier-māché, like sheets in the sky. Always so fragile and bound to be broken.), and they are sung with such genuine passion that it makes up for the times when they are weaker. I find myself listening to this CD over and over, unable to get the same satisfaction from other music. I honestly can't believe how deeply this music hits me. As if the band isn't incredible enough, they got one of the best producers in the alternative music business (James Paul Wisner, produced bands like Underoath, The Academy Is... and Dashboard Confessional). The music is perfectly balanced, the tracks are in the best order possible and you can hear every single note, rhythm and bit of vibrato used. It is clean, crisp, enjoyable and memorable. In short, buy this CD. I have never regretted a purchase less. |
