You Are My Hiding Place,

This review is from: You Are My Hiding Place (Rekindling the Inner Fire) (Paperback)
A friend of mine let me borrow this book. God spoke to me so much through it. I've never read anything other than the bible that was so real. She challenged me. This is a 40 day devotional, but sometimes I read 2 or 3 in one day. I cannot say enough about how great this book is. I highly recommend it!

My mom gave me this book when I was in early high school. It spoke to me then as a young Christian, and it speaks to me now more than 15 years later. I go back to it every once in a while. It both challenges me and comforts me. I highly recommend this book. There are even small prayers at the end of each section that you can either pray yourself or help you begin your own prayer. I also spend time reading the verses surrounding the beginning verse of each chapter.

a good devotional, especially if you are familiar with Amy Carmichael,

This review is from: You Are My Hiding Place (Rekindling the Inner Fire) (Paperback)
The editor of this little book took 40 excerpts from the various books and writings of Amy Carmichael. At the end of each excerpt, the editor writes his own short prayer that goes along with the theme. These were meaningful daily devotionals for 40 days. They will probably mean more if you are familiar with the life of Amy Carmichael. (She was a missionary to India in the early 1900's.) For instance, some of the devotionals on suffering will certainly mean more to you if you are familiar with the suffering Amy went through in the final years of her life. Amy has "been there" and can speak from first hand experience...I'd also recommend the biography of Amy called "A Chance to Die : The Life and Legacy of Amy Carmichael".
