Book Description

December 29, 2009
Terrible things are happening in Pushmataha County, Oklahoma. A black teen and his white girl friend have disappeared. After an altercation with white ruffians, a Choctaw Indian turns up missing as well. It's not a good time for a Jewish boy from Boston to spend time in this place where it seems minorities are suddenly unwelcome.

Sheriff Burl Hansen has his hands full even before fate forces him to bond with the boy from Boston. Hansen, though, will not heed the mystical warnings of a Choctaw holy man until it's too late to save citizens from the terror of good intentions gone awry.

In a Godly community where honorable men have strayed, only a force beyond human comprehension can intervene from The Hiding Place of Thunder.

"No writer has been able to grab my attention since I read my first John Grisham novel. If The Hiding Place of Thunder is an example of Keith Remer's novels to come, America and the world have discovered a great new author. I am hooked, and a Remer fan for life."

-Steve Bender, producer, director and author, 68 at 40 Retrospective and If I Can Dream

"Keith Remer is truly one of the most gifted storytellers of our time. The Hiding Place of Thunder is a haunting and provocative masterpiece, which leaves the reader no choice but to keep turning its pages. It's one of those books that will keep you thinking about it long after you've finished reading it."

-Stacy D. Shelton, author, Me, the Crazy Woman, and Breast Cancer

"Keith Remer knows his craft and weaves compelling stories taken from real life. His novels present those kinds of reflective moments we need to take pause with in our own lives. He has inspired and taught me."

-Chris Querry, author, Alat Farad, Eden's Keys, and A Love Made Real, reviewer, Myshelf.com

More About the Author

International award winning author Keith Remer is a native Oklahoman. As such, he realized long ago there are no better breeding grounds for thrillers than the trailer parks, oilfields, churches, ranches, skyscrapers and meth-labs of the Bible-Belt. Remer fills his fictionalized accounts with the products of the region's western, Native American, outlaw, and fundamental Christian cultures to produce unforgettable characters who bring his unique plots to life.

Keith is a retired army colonel. He spends his retirement as a small-time rancher and adjunct college professor. In the late 70's and early 80's he took a ten-year break from the army to serve as an Oklahoma City police officer. During those years he policed the roughest precincts of the city. Remer's specialized military training awarded him opportunities to join the S.W.A.T. team and bomb squad.

Keith was raised as the son of an oilfield roustabout. He spent his formative years in shanties and mobile homes as he was moved from one oil boom town to another. He rubbed elbows with relatives who were outlaw bikers long before putting those types in jail. He's been in bar fights and shoot-outs and has shaken the hands of two American Presidents. His stories are a product of his background.

To date, Keith has written eight novels and converted two into screenplays. At the insistence of a number of producers and directors, he intends to adapt all his novels for the big-screen.

5.0 out of 5 stars Not a cure for insomnia, March 20, 2011
This review is from: The Hiding Place of Thunder (Paperback)
Are you looking for something boring to help put you to sleep? Well folks this book ain't it. It's down home rude and crude. It's hot just like our beloved Oklahoma in the summer. You start out thinking this is just another who-done-it but soon find out you haven't got a clue who the bad guy is and you are riding this out to the end. You are not reading about people you are those people. Your mind is thinking the same things they are. You are in this drama. You sweat when they sweat. Your heart races with theirs. You are Burl Hansen as he drives the woods and hills of Southeastern Oklahoma. I loved this book because it took me back to some old stomping grounds, just as I remember them. Thanks colonel for a great yarn. Lets have some more

I'm not a huge fiction reader. Most fiction I've read comes across to me as superficial and just plain lame. But I have a few favorite authors - Koontz, Cornwell...and Keith Remer! Remer has an extraordinary talent for escorting a reader into the minds and lives of his characters allowing one to "live" the story. His books always leave me waiting for the next one to be published! Please keep them coming!

5.0 out of 5 stars I couldn't put it down, June 5, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I started reading Hiding Place of Thunder thinking it was just going to be another half-baked mystery set in my home state, Oklahoma. Boy was I wrong! From the first page to the last, I wasn't reading the book, I was totally immersed in the book. Most mystery novels are really easy to predict and as a result can get very boring. That doesn't happen with "Thunder". I know it's normally a cheesy accolade to say the author "grabs" you, but not in this case. Keith Remer grabs you from the very first page and doesn't let go until you finish the book exhausted from trying to keep up with all the twists and turns and good guys and bad guys. I am throwing out my Koontz and Dan Brown and John Grisham novels to make room on my shelf for all the novels I hope Keith is going to put out.
