Intense Free Euro-Influenced Improv- So What's this Gotta Do with Patti Smith?,

This review is from: Hidros 3 (Audio CD)
T. Moore and the gang over the last five years have well immersed themselves within the (actual) confines of Euro-Free Jazz/Improv. I use the verb "confine" because indeed 40+ years later this is a style of music that has rules and certain soundscapes.
You think I am just blathering on? Check out Incus recording artists' guitarist Derek Bailey (whom I bet Thurston would've given his left nut to jam with before his sad departure in 2005) and altosaxophonist Evan Parker (Evan is no longer on the label due to a row with DB, but another time...). Both after 40 years of recording didn't exactly play "free", "anysound goes" music. Their styles became well developed, recognizable and totally their own. And I, for one, think it's the best music out there. Indeed, my band in Vermont plays free, world, jazz, tribal, screaming and disturbing to the normies music heavily influenced by the artists mentioned above, including SY. But what this all has to do with Patti Smith, now a member of Cleveland Rocks! is way beyond me. It's a great free improv album, with Kim Gordon blathering on about who knows what. If you like challenging music- recommended. If you like Sonic Youth Geffen released albums, avoid like locusts eating your crops.
