Mayhem-oriented rock.,

This review is from: High As Hell (Audio CD)
"High as Hell", Nashville Pussy's second full-length release, flips the bird defiantly in the face of the sophomore slump. Somehow this band has outdone "Let Them Eat Pussy", one of the most aggressively butt-kicking discs in recent memory (and still my vote-getter for best album title of all time).'Struttin' Cock', the searing opener, makes the agenda abundantly clear: "No more thinking! ...Let's Rock!" The title cut chugs along to a greasy George Thorogood riff, but Mr. Bad to the Bone would head for the hills if he saw these characters coming his way. A gander at some of the other song titles would support this point: `Blowjob From a Rattlesnake', `Piece of Ass', `Go to Hell', `Shoot First and Run Like Hell', `She's Got the Drugs'. Nashville Pussy is an utterly unapologetic band, and more power to them. Their music may be devoid of manners, but you won't find more of an attitude anywhere. Like their idols Motorhead, Nashville Pussy is in relentless pursuit of reckless abandon. Their brand of sleazy barroom rock centers exclusively on an all-Hell-is-about-to-break-loose ethos. Who could blame them for helping jumpstart the ruckus?

What's in a name?,

Sometimes a name can say it all.... The Sex Pistols, Motorhead, nashville Pussy....Who would expect anything serious from bands with such monickers? Probably nobody, but the truth is, all of these bands have one thing in common...they forgot about serious minded politically correct expression of artistic value within a legitimate art form, and just flat out rocked! Nashville Pussy may not sound like a serious project with the obtainment of record industry awards and accolades for their craft, and who cares? The band flat out kicks lower lumabr extremity with the type of reckless abandon not seen since the days when AC/DC were still metal instead of polished old guy rock. In fact, the songs on "High as Hell" could have appeared on any pre-80's AC/DC record and had heads banging and feet stomping back then. Mind you, the guys and gals in Nashville don't just rehash old riffs and beats, but obvious respects are given to influences such as Angus Young, and then even Lemmy from Motorhead when things pick up tempo. The best way to describe this record is what may happen if science could mutate the genes of AC/DC, Motorhead, Molly Hatchet, Lynyrd Skynyrd, and Steve Jones all into one new being, then add a shot of a triple x rated Southern Culture on the Skids just for good measure and humor to result in what my ears conclude is one of the finest truly rocking records since the Cult's classic "Electric." Those who are easily offended need not apply, but for anyone who wants to just put a disc in the car stereo and go cruising and jamming for 40 minutes, go find a copy of High as hell. Save for it, slave for it; trade for it, trick for it, just go out and get it and enjoy the carefree childishness of rock -n-roll without having to worry about intrepreting introspective lyrics or dissonant chord and tempo structures. Not an artistic specimen by any means, but it gets 5 stars for rocking my you know what and making me smile.

The last time I bought an album 'cos the cover and title looked really cool was over a decade ago! WHITE ZOMBIE's "La Sexorcisto: Devil Music Vol. 1". Well, that album went on to change my life and that band became one of my all-time favorite bands! Nashville Pussy will never change my life, but this album ROCKS and is a blast!!! It's like AC/DC meet ZZ Top inside a porno mag! I do NOT see how rockers could not LOVE this album (unless it offends them). But then why buy an album by a band named Nashville Pussy if you're the type to get offended? I'm a straight girl and I don't find it offensive, 'cos the singer's male and he doesn't just sing about women - he sings about himself and drugs, too. And, c'mon, it's just R-rated stuff on here. If I have any complaint, the album is too short - but I'm glad I got it. It's a lot of fun and it rocks like crazy. I'd love to see them in concert. Think I'll get their DVD next, or their latest CD.
