Product Description
In a castle somewhere in England on the eve of the crusades, all good English knights are preparing to march on Jerusalem. Out of the heavens, an alien spaceship descends, an entry hatch opens, and a scouting party from another planet emerges, gathering information for a potential march on Earth. Unimpressed by the alien's high-tech weapons, the knights storm the spaceship. With arrogance (and dumb luck) on their side, they soon gain possession of the vessel and a hostage who can fly the thing! Of course, there is only one thing to do - fly it to the Holy Land and use it to put the fear of God into the heathens! But they are not destined to reach Jerusalem - as soon as he's back in his spaceship, their hostage switches the automatic pilot to return home. In two days, the bumbling, arrogant and ignorant crusaders will be at the mercy of an entire alien planet...heaven help the aliens! ohn Rhys-Davies, Rick Overton

1.0 out of 5 stars A Missed Opportunity, March 12, 2000
By Rod Summers (Bristol, England, UK) - See all my reviews
I had high hopes for this movie when I first learnt that someone was going to make a film version of Poul Anderson's classic novel, but somewhere along the way the producers decided to make this as a comedy movie instead of a straight action adventure story. Stupid beyond belief, the powers that be missed the chance to turn a great action story into a great action movie. Dumb. What should have been a stirring space epic with bold knights in armour, treachery and villainous aliens becomes a tedious - and cringingly bad at times - waste of time. One day, perhaps, someone will have the guts to make a proper film version of Anderson's great book.

4.0 out of 5 stars A damn good laugh, September 5, 2002
By G. M. Curtis (Rotorua New Zealand) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
I just bought this DVD a few weeks ago, the price was right and I quite liked the novella. I agree with the others, its not like the book, but quite frankly, the book wasn't this funny. Its British camp humour, with a lot of stock character actors turning up in strange places, and the narration is excellent.

If you wanted this to be the movie of the book, don't watch it. If you just want an unpretentious laugh, with some clever dialoge, see it.

4.0 out of 5 stars A light hearted space adventure, May 19, 1999
By A Customer
A liberal humorous interpretation of Poul Anderson's book by the same name. I thoroughly enjoyed this movie. The sight gags range from subtile to outrageous. The general mood is similar to Mel Brooks' "Men in Tights." Listen carefully to the dialog as it is quite witty.
