Very technical, and very basic, October 18, 2010
This review is from: High Definition Cinematography, Third Edition (Paperback)
I am a professional documentary filmmaker at the University of Pennsylvania, and because I am young and early in my career, I got this book to improve my skills in cinematography. It's not a terrible book, but I wasn't able to get anything useful out of it. It seems to be the same information I learned simply by doing a lot of research when buying my HD cameras; information I got from various websites and just by reading camera reviews. Though I suppose it does get a little deeper in the technical realm, this isn't what I thought of when I wanted to learn more about cinematography. I wanted guidance in the craft and art. This book doesn't provide that, so if you only want technical info about how HD cameras work, this is the book for you.
