Good, but could be better,

I've been doing the low GI diet for almost 4 months and am down 25 pounds, so I'm a believer. The front section of this book gave some great information on the low GI lifestyle that I found very helpful. The book is also loaded with great pictures that really let you see what you are making. However, I was less impresses with the recipes themselves. Many of them were higher in calories than I would have liked and many revolved around bread, even if it is multi-grain. But the biggest downside for me - and why I'm going to return the book - is the nutritional information - or lack thereof - for each recipe. Fiber and sugar information is omitted as is the overall GI rating of the recipe. I'm going to stick with my "Good Carb Cookbook" which gives full nutritional information for each receipe as well as its GI level (very low, low, moderate). Most people on a low GI diet set limits for themselves, and this book should respect that.

This book was not what I was looking for apparently. I thought that the price was too high for the small amount of recipes and information on low glycemic food, as I thought it was supposed to.

Good explanation of low glycemic diet. Recipes are not that great but the explanation of the type of diet is good.

I received this as a gift many years ago. Only recently have I started to make the recipes. There are many really healthy and tasty recipes that don't disappoint. I am giving it 3 stars, because there are just not enough recipes. I came online to see if there was an expanded version or a volume II.

This cookbook isn't intended to be the definitive book for Atkins dieters. It is a book suitalble for displaying, for giving; it is a delight to look at and touch.If you're looking for hundreds of facts on high protein dieting and enough recipes to keep you cooking into the next century, this book is not for you. If your needs are both esoteric and practical, this may be the best choice of all. I have given this book as a shower present.
