I would describe this dish set as modern, sophisticated casual. The set is solid white and has a very elegant appearance. It is a sixteen piece set, consisting of 4 dinner plates (all measurements are approximate) 10 ½" wide by 1" high, 4 salad plates - 8 5/8" wide by 7/8" high, 4 bowls 7 ½" wide by 1 5/8" high and 4 cups 4 1/8" high by 3 ½" across.

As you will be able to see from the pictures, the plates, salad plates and bowls are slightly "stretched" square shapes. The sides of the plates slope rather steeply to a circle shape in the middle. The bowls are shallow but make up for that with their width. The bowls will hold about one and ½ cups of liquids and still have a comfortable safety margin to prevent spills. Since the bowls are shallow, spills are more likely to occur.

These dishes are what I would describe as mid-weight. They are certainly not as heavy as some earthenware but they are also not extremely lightweight. The edges are smooth and well rounded. It appears that the finish is very good. I will need to use them for an extended period of time to learn if the dishwasher and/or knives will mar the surface.

The dishes are extremely well packed. There were no scratches or abrasions on any of the dishes. They were so well packed it took some effort to get the dishes out of the packing.

If you are looking for a upscale, modern, chic set of casual dishes I think these should certainly be considered.

We are very pleased with the look and feel of the dishes and plan to use them to replace a set that was a few years old and missing a couple of pieces.

They aren't exciting, but they focus attention on the food (sometimes unfortunately so). They are squarish, but lack corners which is actually very nice for washing, though if you are expecting actual squareness you won't be happy. They are fundamentally circular dishes with a bit of extensions. Though it all works pleasantly enough.

Keep in mind they are only heavy weight for porcelain, if you are used to earthenware they are quite thin and lightweight. They also will get very hot with say a hot soup or the like. On the other hand they handle heat differences like a champ, and thus are probably fairly well fired. Finish is good, which is fortunate as any flaws would be terribly visible.

They ship well packed within their box, and don't suffer from dust problems like you will see on some (even fairly expensive) dinnerware sets.

Honestly even at fairly formal occasions these hold up fine, but it is hard to overstate just how much attention they draw to your food. Unappetizing food will look especially unappetizing, and watching a few youtube videos of plating is probably mandatory if you are going to try to entertain with this set.

I'm very pleased with the Francois et Mimi dinnerware set. It's simple yet chic. The modern, squared shape of these dishes make them appropriate for everyday meals and more formal occasions alike.

Compared to my last set of stoneware dishes, these plates, bowls, and cups are lightweight and a joy to handle. The cups are comfortable in the hand, and they can hold up to 12 ounces of liquid. Though light, these dishes are sturdy and can easily survive the clanks and clatters of everyday use. I especially love how well they work in the microwave. They allow the food to heat thoroughly. The set is dishwasher safe as well.

The dinnerware arrived safely, well-packaged and unbroken. Lovely, high quality set.

This set includes 4 square plates that are bigger than most plates, 4 salad plates, 4 bowls and 4 mugs. These came on the coldest day we have had in years and when I opened the box I was worried they might have broken from the cold but they were fine (although too cold to handle for awhile). I got the round set of these also and can't decide which ones I like better. They are heavy and look very elegant on the table with red napkins, or whatever color napkins you might be using. The price is great too. Someone said they might be good for a starter set for someone. That's true but personally I was glad to finally give up my old corning ware and put these in the cupboard instead. I have lots of fancy china since I have collected it for years but these are the dishes I plan on using every day. I feel comfortable with them since they don't seem to break too easily (I'm kind of clumsy so have already tested that theory out) and they just look nice. Very pleased with them!

Vine Customer Review of Free Product ( What's this? )
When I ordered this 16 piece dinnerware set, I honestly didn't realize how large the plates were. They look small in the picture, especially with the coffee mug sitting on top. So I was very happy to open the box and find that the dinner plates were larger than most of the ones I currently own, as was the smaller saucer plates. The bowl, while large, is not deep at all, and while I am used to deep bowls, my wife says this is actually better. It's a matter of opinion.

The build quality is fantastic. Very sturdy and heavy. They don't feel "cheap". Also, they (the bowls and plates) are more square than round, again conflicting what the picture looks like.

I really like this set, and you will, too.
