Editorial Reviews

Hey, Hey Apple! It's Annoying Orange! Follow Orange and his pals, from the hit Cartoon Network show, Pear, Passion Fruit, Marshmallow, and their only human friend Nerville (YouTube star Toby Turner) as they travel time and space in their magical fruit cart. From the Center of the Earth to the center of Nerville's cavernous cranium, Orange and his friends are thrown into crazy adventures and forced to squeeze their way out. Whether he's a Cowboy, an Adventurer or Host of a hilarious Holiday Special, Orange is always...Annoying!

My grand kids and I thoroughly enjoyed these stories. The animations are imaginative and the dialogue is witty. Great buy.

I think one of the problems that the ever-evolving channel that the Cartoon Network has experienced is that, throughout its various programming `evolutions,' it's traveled further and further away from its original intentions: that being a network that, primarily, showed cartoons. You can debate it all you like, but cartoons - at their inception - were originally intended to tap into the child inside all of us. With shows like CHILDREN'S HOSPITAL, the sometimes relatively adult storytelling in STAR WARS: THE CLONE WARS, the delightfully witty VENTURE BROS., and even the highly satiric ROBOT CHICKEN, Cartoon Network has modified its format to bring in more adults, though arguably ones who still embrace their inner child.

So when a program like ANNOYING ORANGE comes along that's genuinely a throwback to something clearly much more kid-centric, it may not register as strongly with the network's current audience.

For all its prepubescent humor I found ORANGE to be mostly benign, family-friendly entertainment maybe just a bit nostalgic for the way legitimate children's shows used to be written but with enough contemporary snarkiness to make palatable for today's disenfranchised youth. Yes, yes, okay, I get that it may not be what everyone would want on the boob tube 24/7; still, I found these episodes a mostly benign way to spend 11 minutes.

If you're the kind of reader who prefers a review entirely spoiler-free, then I'd encourage you to skip down to my last two paragraphs for my final assessment. If, however, you're accepting of a few modest hints at `things to come,' then read on ...
