The Best book on Professional Cycling Ever!!,
By Dan Strika (Parlin, NJ United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: In High Gear: The World of Professional Bicycle Racing (Paperback)
Samuel Abt has written a book about the world of professional cycling that no-one has been able to come even close to. Lance Armstrong's book "Its not About the Bike" is not even in the same literary universe as "In High Gear" (no disrespect to Mr. Armstrong). Abt has written a number of books about professional cycling but this one is his best. The author is not only and excellent sports writer but an excellent writer in general. I've read this book five times and in the years to come I can see myself reading it another five times . Everty time that I've read the book it generates the same level of enthusiasm in me. The book captures the drama that is professional cycling. The book culminates with the 1988 Tour De France and has a section on the 1989 Tour. Excellent portraits of the individuals that make up the world of cycling (riders and non-riders). |
