Book Description

New York Times and USA Today Bestseller!

Boxed set of five award wining High Heels Mystery novels featuring fashion designer turned amateur sleuth, Maddie Springer, including:

L.A. shoe designer, Maddie Springer, lives her life by three rules: Fashion. Fashion. Fashion. But when she stumbles upon the work of a brutal killer, her life takes an unexpected turn from Manolos to murder.

Maddie straps on her stilettos and, along with her trigger-happy best friend, makes tracks for Sin City in search of her MIA dad.
Maddie finds not only her dad, but also a handful of aging drag queens, an organized crime ring smuggling fake Prada pumps, and one relentless killer. Plus, it seems the LAPD's sexiest cop is doing a little Vegas moonlighting of his own. In a town where odds are everything, Maddie bets it all on her ability to out-step a vicious murderer.

Secret affairs, hunky gardeners, and housewives desperate enough to bare it all... welcome to Magnolia Lane, TV's hottest new prime time show... where a rising young starlet is found dead on the show's set. Now it's up to Maddie to sift through a leading lady with a secret, an actor on the verge of a nervous breakdown, a sexy cyber scandal, and one tabloid reporter who'll stop at nothing to get the story of the century. Not to mention Maddie's hot-cold relationship with the case's familiar lead detective, Jack Ramirez. In a world where secrets, lies, and deception can earn you an Oscar, Maddie plays the role of a lifetime to catch Hollywood's hottest killer. But if she doesn't watch her step, Maddie's fifteen minutes of fame just may be her last.

Baguettes, bodies, and haute couture galore! Shoe designer turned amateur sleuth, Maddie Springer, is at it again, this time in fabulously fashionable Paris. When Europe's designer de jour, Jean Luc LeCroix, invites Maddie to show her creations at Paris Fashion Week, Maddie's sure she's died and gone to heaven. That is until Jean Luc's top model is found dead on the runway, stabbed with a familiar stiletto heel. Sure someone is trying to frame her, Maddie enlists the help of her friends, including the sexy Detective Jack Ramirez, to uncover a daring jewel heist, a devious blackmailer, and even a few skeletons lurking in the closets of those closest to her. But as the evidence mounts, Maddie becomes the prime suspect and Ramirez is stuck between a badge and a cute blonde with a tendency for trouble. Will he stand by her as she attempts to track down an international killer, or will this be the case that finally comes between them? One thing's for sure, if Maddie doesn't uncover the real killer soon, she may be saying her final adieu.

Maddie Springer is finally walking down the aisle with the man of her dreams. And she's got the perfect wedding planner to pull it all off in style. Well, perfect, that is, until the woman winds up dead - murdered in buttercream icing. With the help of her fellow fashionista friends, Maddie vows to unveil the cold-blooded killer, but as the wedding day grows closer, tempers flare, old flames return, and Maddie's race to the altar turns into a race against time.

"A saucy combination of romance and suspense that is simply irresistible."
- Chicago Tribune

"Stylish... nonstop action...guaranteed to keep chick lit and mystery fans happy!"
- Publishers’ Weekly, starred review

"Maddie Springer is like a cross between Paris Hilton and Stephanie Plum, only better. The dialogue is snappy and the suspense beautifully interwoven with Ms. Halliday’s unique humor. This is one HIGH HEEL you’ll want to try on again and again "
- Romance Junkies

"It's rare to find a romantic mystery that's so funny, but this is certainly one of them. Maddie Springer (is) a ‘Versace’ Nancy Drew everyone can appreciate."
- Press & Sun Bulletin

3.0 out of 5 stars Cute Story November 29, 2010
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
The stories are cute, and lighthearted. Most pages have typos of some sort. This can get irritating. Don't know if it's an Amazon thing, or the publisher, but it makes reading difficult.

1.0 out of 5 stars Major Disappointment April 13, 2011
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I thought these would be fun, but between the bad grammar, the typos, and the totally ditsy "heroine" I was really put off. She lies, cheats, doesn't have an ounce of sense in her head. I kept thinking that they'd get better, but unfortunately, at least for me, they were a total waste of time and money.

The books are silly, brainless time-wasters which are arguably fun and/or cute to read.

I've probably lost a few brain cells. I certainly didn't learn anything valuable. I disliked most of what Maddie does, but I can't help but call this a guilty pleasure in that these novels were predictable, simple, had a fantasy guy, were light reads, and always had happy endings.

The heroine is annoying more often than not, because she's constantly doing what we the audience know she shouldn't do. On the other hand, the rare appearances by Detective Ramirez for some reason fulfills the unrealistic and cliched fantasy of "hunky, yet sensitive" knight in shining armor. He--even in his unoriginal dialogue and descriptions--was probably the only character that we want to like despite all the novels' many character flaws.

Each book follows the same basic formula, and can be read in a couple of hours as there isn't much to think about.

Here is the basic formula for each of the five novels:

1. Maddie, petite shoe designer, gets dressed to the nines in whatever brand is hot the year the book is published.

2. Maddie is late for wherever she's supposed to be.

3. Someone gets killed.

4. Maddie finds the body and/or becomes the prime suspect.

5. Hunky yet caring LAPD Detective Ramirez enters the scene. He is always described with a day-old stubby jaw and hard body, with a dark look that makes Maddie swoon.

6. Maddie ignores good sense and does her own investigations into the murder, and always gets in trouble.

7. Hunky cop rescues or bails her out, scolds her, and then kisses her up against the wall.

8. Maddie then avoids hunky cop and continues investigation.

3.0 out of 5 stars Got through 3 of the 5 January 26, 2011
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I bought these on kindle because of the price (publishers note this remark.) These books were not bad. They had a sense of fun and a bit of slapstick. You kind of have to join the author's world which is not quite the real world, but that's ok as the author does seem to live within the rules of that world. I only read 3 (or maybe 2.5) because they did get a bit trite. This is not high literature, but a fun bit of fluff. Some bits get tiresome (how often can the heroine and her boyfriend fight before it becomes and obviously dysfunctional relationship that we all know really shouldn't be...)

I plan on reading the rest in the future. I just couldn't do them all back-to-back.

5.0 out of 5 stars Love It!!! October 2, 2011

I just LOVE this series!! Maddie, Jack and all the support characters are awesome. I found myself laughing out loud several times while reading this series. I first downloaded the 1st book for free. After reading it I knew I wanted to read all the others, so I went with the box set and it was SO worth the money. I can't wait for the next full novel in the series that is supposed to be out this December (2011). I did read the Valentine's Day book ($1.49) and it was good for the price. I've skipped the Christmas one, since the reviews were poor in regards to the price vs. length of the story and the fact that you don't miss anything in the series continuation. I've also read her other spin-off series, Hollywood Headlines Mysteries (box set) and it was also worth the price and a fantastic series. If you love this one, then you'll love that one too!

Gemma Halliday writes a cute, light little book. They are a fun read, but I enjoyed reading other books in between these. They can get a bit too much "cutesie" otherwise.
