More About the Author

Ellington Darden has a goal: to help people live leaner and stronger longer. For the lost thirty years he has worked with thousands of men and women who wanted to feel better physically, look more attractive, and improve overall health through a disciplined approach to nutrition and exercise. He holds bachelor's and master's degrees in physical education from Baylor University and a doctorate in exercise science from Florida State University. Two years of postdoctoral study in food and nutrition set him on the trail that led to the ASAP program. Dr. Darden was director of research for Nautilus Sports/Medical Industries for seventeen years. There he helped develop and popularize the highly acclaimed Nautilus exercise machines. Today, Dr. Darden is the founder and chairman of Living Longer Stronger, a corporation devoted to science and education. His outstanding research, which is applied in his books, is one reason he was recently honored by the President's Council on Physical Fitness and Sports as one of the top ten health leaders in the United States. A Flat Stomach ASAP is Dr. Darden's forty-fourth book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great for ANY weight routine!, January 3, 2008

This book was recomended to me by my doctor. I am athleticly cut but no bodybuilder, and have done prior reserch to my regular routine. This book showed me how to pass that plateau I always hit, and made working out more enjoyable. It's all about intensity and not overtraining, so my workouts are much harder yet shorter, and my gains are amazing. I cannot recomend this book highly enough.

4.0 out of 5 stars An excellent starting point, October 5, 2011

This review is from: High Intensity Body (Mass Market Paperback)
This course serves well as an excellent starting point with certain modifications such as a light warm up prior to the first set of squats, which should also be interchanged with leg presses and hack squats periodically, with most of the work being done with dumbbells or at least periodically switching to them and using a full deadlift instead of the stiff legged dead lift.

One might also drop one set of squats and pullovers, add pre-exhaustion as a means of intensifying and shortening the length of the workout and only doing it two days a week (three and four days apart).

You will look more like a power lifter than a bodybuilder however, you will get very strong and such will allow you to then begin true bodybuilding.

5.0 out of 5 stars for the serious only, March 31, 2000

This review is from: High Intensity Body (Mass Market Paperback)
Every serious bodybuilder, or even just your average lifter can benefit from the info in this book. It covers everything from what to eat, to how to lift. Inside there is an article about a world renown trainer, in florida, that guaranteed one half inch gain in upper arms, in only two days. Reguardless of the size of the arm or the size of the trainee the results were a given. If you are serious about this sport or are tired of all work with no results, this book will change your workouts forever.
