4.0 out of 5 stars Powerful praise and worship from BTC.
Recently I had the privilege of singing "We Are United" with 25-30 other guys in my church's men's chorus, and we brought the house down! More importantly, we brought joy to the Lord! What an uplifting song! If for no other reason, this CD is worth the price just to crank up cut #4 and sing along with the Brooklyn Tabernacle Choir. So what are you waiting...

2.0 out of 5 stars Incredibly Over-Orchestrated Recording
I call tell that the Brooklyn Tabernacle Choir has a wonderful, rich sound -- from what little of their voices one can hear on this CD. The orchestration almost completely drowns out the human beings -- it's way, way overdone and out of balance. When I ordered this CD, I expected an exciting, vibrant, uplifting Gospel recording. This CD sounds like a bad movie score.

5.0 out of 5 stars the best I ever heard, October 18, 1999
This review is from: High & Lifted Up (Audio CD)
I have been a huge fan of the Brooklyn choir since I heard "Favorite song of all" and was hugely impressed by their latter additions until I heard "High and Lifted up".To me, "High and Lifted up" is a superb accumalation of their best styles and trends they as such a massive choir feel comfortable in.They actually deny the obvious(the fact that they don't have formal music training) by their unbelievable version of "Battle Hymn of the Republic" and I was quite astonished at their performance on this song and this album. They took choir singing to a new level,a level that I believe only Brooklyn Tabernacle are capable of.Please have more studio recordings,in there you are truly the best!!Their are such a variety of songs on this cd,and everyone better than the other,if that is possible...The upbeat"We are United" is perhaps the reason why God bless this choir with great music, but in my opinion the-food-for-thought comes from the more mild"So you would know"What a brilliant song and a thoughtfull perspective by the writer and emotionally sung by the choir.Everysong on this album is worth listening over and over and over and you be amazed if you listened to the words of every song and live by the words.Brooklyn Tabernacle Choir, once again you have proven that you live through God and praise Him with you voices cause you have released an album that are changing people's lifes. You are the Best!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Total Praise, April 15, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: High & Lifted Up (Audio CD)
Carol Cymbala and the Brooklyn Tabernacle Choir has proved once again that the greatest gospel music comes from voices of men and women who've been touched by God. There is an amazing sense of integrity in this music. These people sing what they believe and give the listeners a chance to experience their faith and spirituality. If Oprah has "Change Your Life T.V." then Brooklyn Tabernacle lays claim to "Change Your Life Music".

Carol Cymbala and Oliver Well's title cut "High and Lifted Up" gives the choir its greatest moments in this great album. Listening to "High and Lifted Up" one is refreshed and renewed. Cuts like "Psalm 150, Praise Ye The Lord" and "Blessed Be The Lord" are signature "Brooklyn Tab" songs gaurenteed to please. Richard Smallwood's "Total Praise" is a great opening vehicle for the album and really sets the tone. "High and Lifted Up" is total praise.

The best albums are new albums which leave you hungry for more. This is one of those albums, we can only look forward to the future outings of the Brooklyn Tabernacle Choir.

5.0 out of 5 stars The BEST HAS DONE IT AGAIN, and AGAIN!, June 22, 1999
This review is from: High & Lifted Up (Audio CD)
I first heard the "Brooklyn Tabernacle Choir" when they had a little-known, obscure album, titled, SO IN LOVE....but I was hooked back then, and I'm still hooked today.

This recording is DA BOMB! Having visited this congregation a couple of times, I rushed to the store and copy my own copy of the CD, and listened to it all the way through at least three times in one sitting! It is great.

My favorite song, "WE ARE UNITED" featuring Calvin Hunt, and such tight vocal arrangements, that would can only REJOICE. This song speaks of the confidence that we can have in the power of the Word of God. The lovely, "Father We Adore Thee" so ably adapted by the producer's husband (Pastor Jim Cymbala)and the inspiring "High and Lifted Up" are worth the price of the album by themselves.

And the usual "no fluff," straightforward affirmations and testimonies to the grace of God from a choir that can affirm that grace in the context of their own experiences.

NOT BAD FOR A CHOIR THAT DOES NOT READ MUSIC! Thanks, Carol and choir for, once again, blessing the church with such wonderfully inspiring music. I can hardly wait to visit this congregation again...and maybe even take someone with me!

5.0 out of 5 stars A Great Praise and Worship Album, March 27, 2000

The Brooklyn Tabernacle Choir always puts out top quality and uplifting songs that bring glory to the Savior, and this album is no different. Every song will uplift and motivate, at least it did me. "Total Praise", though simple in lyrics, is extremely moving and wonderfully arranged, (my favorite on the album), which has an extremely important messange to Christians on the true source of our strength. "My Help" , is another beautiful song ,perfectly arranged, extremely uplifting. A truly professional and uplifting project. I highly recommend this album to all who wish to receive a real blessing in song.

5.0 out of 5 stars Life Changing Music, March 15, 2000

This review is from: High & Lifted Up (Audio CD)
I have had the opportunity to see the Brooklyn Tabernacle in their home setting and this album certainly captures their true spirit. The selection of music on this album is a reflection of the various cultures represented at the Brooklyn Tabernacle. Technically this is probably not the best gospel choir in the country but if peoples lives were affected by the quality of voice and music, this world would probably be a much better place. This choir's music reaches the soul and if you couldn't be there live, then this CD is the next best thing. Pay close attention to the lyrics...they are relevant and addresses the struggles that I deal with on daily basis. Congratulations to another job well done.

Truly, the anointing of God can be found for everyone who listens to these recordings. The music is upbeat, yet very comforting to the soul through the ministerial words of every song.

This choir and its director truly have been placed by God at this time to provide a very powerful message to his people.

IT IS ONE OF THE CHOIR'S BEST. IT MINISTERS TO ME AND ANYONE WHO HEARS IT. THEY ARE AN ANNOINTED CHOIR. I FOLLOW THEM WHEN THEY ARE IN MY AREA. KEEP ON BEING A BLESSING TO EVERYONE. IF YOU HAVE NEVER SEEM THEM IN PERSON, MAKE A SPECIAL EFFORT AND YOU WILL BE BLESSED. REMEMBER THEY ARE NOT PERFORMERS. THEY ARE MINISTERS THROUGH SONG.
