4.0 out of 5 stars solid Alan Jackson album
This cd isn't Alan Jackson's best, but it's right up there with them. "Right On The Money," "Gone Crazy," "Little Man," and "I'll Go On Loving You" are all great songs. 2.0 out of 5 stars Good ....But Not An Effort That Will Stand The Test Of Time
Alan Jackson seems like he is just going through the motions. This album is pleasant but there is nothing here that will be remembered after the dust settles. Die hard fans will like it but not those who are only "casual" fans. "I'll Go On Loving You" is a catchy toon but far from what I would consider country music. As one reveiwer put it...

4.0 out of 5 stars solid Alan Jackson album, January 6, 2000

This cd isn't Alan Jackson's best, but it's right up there with them. "Right On The Money," "Gone Crazy," "Little Man," and "I'll Go On Loving You" are all great songs. Not only do they sound good but it's good to see a modern country singer paying tribute to the roots of country music instead of doing like most singers and not even mentioning anything in their music about "The Good Ol' Days."

This is a good album to have, but my only complaint is that the other songs just don't seem like they're of the usual Alan Jackson quality except for "What A Day Yesterday Was" and "Hurtin' Comes Easy."

5.0 out of 5 stars One of Alan's Best Releases!, August 7, 2000

This is probably my favorite Alan Jackson CD. The songs are great and he does not over do the high strung songs. It's a great mix. I especially like the slow songs and he should do more of them. This CD seems to be highly underated and did not get much play time on radio stations. I did see his video a couple times (little man) on CMT. This CD is also enhanced which means it has these great little video clips if you put the cd into your computer. One of the clips is really neat. It tells about where he got the idea to write the song "Don't rock the jukebox." Alan was with his friends at a bar/club and he was leaning on the jukebox (which was missing a leg). So his friend said "don't rock the jukebox." Well, as for the songs on this CD they are all wonderful. My favorite one has to be "ill go on loving you." All the songs are good mainly because Alan just doesnt just rush to put a bunch of songs together. He puts thought and emotion in all of his songs. That's what is so great about Alan, he knows how to express his true feelings and by doing this he creates truely touching songs.

5.0 out of 5 stars it's a beautiful country music CD, October 10, 1999

I am an early fan of country music, but when I have listened this cd I liked it very much. Songs like "a little man", "gone crazy" and mainly "another good reason" and "hurtin' comes easy" are greats. You must hear too the suprising song "I`ll go on loving you". Congratulations, Mr. Jackson.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Don Williams influence shines through, August 25, 2003
This review is from: High Mileage (Audio CD)
On Alan's album of covers, Under the influence, Alan made clear that one of his influences was Don Williams. This mellow album is devoid of all the good-time rocking songs like Chattahoochee and Don't rock the jukebox, while it also lacks any real tear-jerkers like Here in the real world. That said, the album does have some sadness, like Gone crazy, but even here it seems that Alan has accepted the situation and is past the stage of being upset.

Another great song is Little man, a song about what a town used to be like in the old days - another song with a tinge of sadness but philosophical acceptance. There are happier songs here too, like Right on the money and I'll go on loving you. Alan reflects on the past and also looks to the future in What a day yesterday was, hoping that life will continue to be just as good. The tempo picks up a little on Hurting comes easy and a bit more on Another good reason, but even this track, while fast by the standards of this album, is slow compared to many of Alan's classic up-tempo songs. The closing Amarillo, like all the songs here, is an original song and should not be confused with Emmylou's song of the same title.

On this album, Alan gives the impression of being comparatively at ease with the world - nothing to get too excited about, but nothing to get too sad about either. It is exactly the kind of album that Don recorded in the seventies and eighties, albeit with a contemporary production. I like this album a lot. It does not show the full range of Alan's capability but there are times when this is just the kind of album I want to listen to.

This Is A Great CD. It Features The Balleds "I'll Go On Loving You", And "Gone Crazy". "Right On The Money" A Number 1 Hit, Is My Favorite. In The Video For "Little Man", He Pays Tribute On "The Good Ol' Days" As He Did In "Don't Rock The Jukebox", And "Midnight In Montgomery". This Is A Must Have.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent!, February 17, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: High Mileage (Audio CD)
This CD by Alan Jackson is absolutely amazing! The songs are awesome, real, true country music, like it's meant to be sung. My personal favorites are Gone Crazy, Little Man, Hurtin' Comes Easy, and Another Good Reason. All the rest of the songs are excellent, too with the exception of the very stupid, boring, and pointless Right On The Money which I don't like. But one bad song couldn't ruin this album! Not when there are nine other terrific songs to make up for it! This CD is a true keeper and a must have for all country music fans. Buy "High Mileage" today. You won't be disappointed!

5.0 out of 5 stars Breath Taking Music, December 13, 1999

Alan Jackson deserves a LOT of praise. He single handedly brought GOOD country music to us about 10 years ago. This set is probably his best. How can we go wrong with "Gone Crazy", "Little Man", and "I'll Go On Loving You"? Those are the radio songs you've heard but the rest is just a good or in some cases even better like on "Hurtin' Comes Easy" and "Amarillo". Alan has proven he has longiveity as his music just keeps getting better.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great album, September 10, 1999

Coming from Alan Jackson, I knew this album would be worth my money. But it was much more than I expected. The song "Little Man" hits very close to home. The idea of the "little man" being destroyed by big companies and enormous amounts of money is exactly true. This album has a great down-home feel...an awesome addition to any country music collection.

This CD is not the right gift to give to a close friend if you are a married male and the close friend is a woman. Your wife will kick your ass. There is a lot of words on this CD. Words guys do not hear till your pissed off wife points them out to you. The one song missing on the cd is "Sleeping in the doghouse" but that can be on his next CD.
