5.0 out of 5 stars Surprisingly fascinating read..., April 25, 2009

This review is from: High Perf. Fasteners & Plumbing HP1523: A Guide to Nuts, Bolts, Fuel, Brake, Oil & Coolant Lines, Hoses, Clamps, RacingHardware and Plumbing Techniques (Mass Market Paperback)
I picked this book up because I needed to learn about fasteners and fluid plumbing for a Ghia I'm fixing. I'd expected this to be a necessary but boring slog of a read.

Much to my surprise I found it fascinating. The author's explanations are clear and concise without being dumbed down. But the author also doesn't make assumptions that you automatically know the background information either.

If you're looking for a book on this subject, this is the one.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Clear and Concise Review of These Essential Automotive Components, September 27, 2008
This review is from: High Perf. Fasteners & Plumbing HP1523: A Guide to Nuts, Bolts, Fuel, Brake, Oil & Coolant Lines, Hoses, Clamps, RacingHardware and Plumbing Techniques (Mass Market Paperback)
This is a great book for anyone who does any work on automobiles. It gives an explanation of the components that hold the vehicle together as well as the conduits that carry the fluids that allow the mechanical systems to function. These systems are often forgotten because they are not glamorous like stereo systems or fancy paint jobs but are imperative for the proper functioning of the engine running and the ability to stop the car safely. If you crash into a brick wall, it does not matter how many watts your sound system puts out. A must read.

5.0 out of 5 stars Really Great Book - Definitely Read, December 30, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I purchased this book because the Kindle price was so low and I just wanted something to read on my Kindle to prep for the restoration of my classic car. I am very glad that I got it! Read on the Kindle, there is some repetition due to text versus captions and, if you're using the Kindle Fire expecting colour pictures, be forewarned that there aren't any. That's all the bad that there is, though. Somehow, the author has actually made a book about bolts and fittings fun to read! Also, it's highly educational and covers specifics applicable to new cars, old cars, and even my 50-year-old British car. If you think you know how to bolt, tighten, and torque, think again - there is significantly more science and aren't than you might expect. My restoration would probably have gone just fine without ever reading this book. Having now read it, my restoration will not just go fine, but more smoothly and with a significantly better and more authentic final product. As I am now considering spending the additional money for a printed version for my garage, as well, I don't think anyone will be disappointed with spending the Kindle price to read this!

This is a really great book! I know it sounds funny, but I learned a lot about fasteners and thread lubricants that I didn't know. And it's very easy reading.

4.0 out of 5 stars Fasteners / Pluming 101, October 27, 2009

The book was not what I was looking for however it turned out to be a great book. If you are new to fasteners and pluming then this will be a great reference book to have. The explanation and definition of terms really helps a beginner understand what they are experiencing. I do recomend the book, especially if you are new to the hobby.
