Book Description

S-A Design October 30, 2007
Diesel engines are finally getting respect they deserve. Diesel trucks have always been popular for towing, but their orbit-altering low-end torque makes them great for off-roading, drag racing, and other types of horsing around. And with all the performance parts available for these trucks, it's not uncommon to see reliable, daily driven rigs making huge power. Diesel cars are also renowned for their efficiency and reliability-but they're responsive to performance upgrades too! Diesel engines work very differently than the gas engines most horsepower junkies are used to, so different performance principles apply. In High-Performance Diesel Builder's Guide, author Joe Pettitt shows you how diesel engines work and how to set them up to make big horsepower and torque, reliably. Pettitt uses over 325 color images and technical yet readable language to describe how to upgrade your intake, exhaust, turbo, and fuel systems to build more boost and make more power. There's even a chapter on nitrous oxide and propane injection. As for the rest of the vehicle, upgrades for your transmission and rear end are covered, too. With vehicle-specific chapters on GM, Ford, Dodge, and even Volkswagen vehicles, you can rest assured this book has the information you need.

This review is from: High-Performance Diesel Builder's Guide (S-A Design) (Paperback)
This book is full of excellant info. It is on the technical side, but very thorough. You can tell who wrote it because of the products that are featured, but why not plug your product! Most of us doing high performance work on a diesel should have no problem figuring it out. This book is great if you plan any performance upgrades for you mill, from mild to wild. BUY IT!!!!

3.0 out of 5 stars No Volkswagen chapter, December 25, 2010

This review is from: High-Performance Diesel Builder's Guide (S-A Design) (Paperback)
The Amazon review says that this book has a chapter on Volkswagen - but it defintely does not. Looks interesting if you are looking for truck info - but nothing there for VW!

2.0 out of 5 stars Medocre if you have any common knowledge about Diesels, February 24, 2011
This review is from: High-Performance Diesel Builder's Guide (S-A Design) (Paperback)
While I really liked the direct input from one of the foremost experts in diesel engine performance, Gail Banks, the majority of this book was rehashed information available online or common knowledge from any one of hundreds of diesel truck forums. Sadly, there appears to be much better articles out there disproving alot of the suggested upgrades in here. In fairness, the common thought is to use the upgrades the author lists.
In reality, if you have a diesel truck and wish for more performance, save the money for this book and put it towards fuel - read the forums and join the make specific club/group - like Turbo Diesel Registry for Dodges. There are lots of guys running trucks with lots more power then you can imagine and doing it better ways, in many cases for much less then the suggested methods in here. Very disappointing but typical of a Motorbooks International title- they will publish anything!
