Digitally remastered and expanded edition of this 1983 album from the Pop/Soul duo. High Rise was the follow up to 1982's Street Opera which included the Top Ten R&B hit, 'Street Corner'. Written, produced and arranged by the couple, High Rise flew high in the R&B charts peaking at #14. 5.0 out of 5 stars Great album beautifully remastered August 28, 2011
Format:Audio CD|Verified Purchase
This album from 1983 is Ashford and Simpson perfection. A perfect mix of uptempo tracks with some glorious ballads. The title track HIGH RISE is a sublime dance trace with an irresistible beat and of course the glorious harmonies of our married duo. They seem to be having so much fun. SIDE EFFECT and IT'S MUCH DEEPER are also uptempo standouts. For me though the true magic on this album comes from the superb ballads. EXPERIENCE (LOVE HAD NO FACE) and I'M NOT THAT TOUGH are songs with deep meaning and are sung with heartfelt conviction. I'M NOT THAT TOUGH builds to a true vocal and emotional climax. Also both tracks, though duets, seem to highlight the vocals of Nick Ashford more than usual and it is a true treat to hear all his voice can do. MY KINDA PICK ME UP is one of those album tracks that should have been a hit. This song alone shows the true versatility of Ashford and Simpson. It is pure r@b jazz and their vocals soar all over caressing each shining moment of this true gem. BBR presents this excellent album here on cd beautifully remastered with extensive liner notes and 5 bonus tracks.

Ashford and Simpson are historical in the music world and all their efforts totally stand the test of time. HIGH RISE shows them at their best and is indeed a must have. Highly recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars A timely classic. August 24, 2011
Format:Audio CD|Verified Purchase
I received this classic CD the day Nick Ashford died, how ironic. This cd is as brilliant today as it was 28 years ago. The title track is a suspenseful yet soulfull slice of heaven. The liner notes are simply superb. This British company, BBR, who specializes in re-mastering soul/dance music from the 70's and 80's does a superb job here and with every remaster they take on. If you are a fan of ASHFORD AND SIMPOSN, this is a must!!!
